Corus Entertainment made a surprising announcement on Thursday: Big Brother Canada, the long-running reality TV sensation, has been axed after its successful 12-season run. Fans were taken aback when the show was conspicuously absent from the upcoming 2024/2025 TV lineup.

The series, known for its devoted fanbase, has garnered widespread support, with enthusiasts launching online petitions in a bid to salvage the beloved show.

In a heartfelt statement, Troy Reeb, co-CEO of Corus Entertainment, acknowledged the profound impact Big Brother Canada had on Canadian media over the past decade. He expressed pride in Global's role as the show's home and extended gratitude to partners Banijay Rights for their support and Insight Productions for their unwavering commitment.

Reeb lauded Executive Producer Erin Brock and Host/Executive Producer Arisa Cox for their pivotal roles in fostering meaningful dialogue, showcasing uniquely Canadian narratives, and capturing the rich diversity of Canada through one of television's most prominent social experiments. The series and its production team have consistently set high standards in delivering captivating unscripted entertainment.

Originating in the Netherlands during the 1990s, the Big Brother franchise has grown into a global phenomenon, captivating audiences worldwide with its innovative format. Contestants live together under constant surveillance, facing weekly evictions until a sole winner emerges victorious.

In the latest season, Bayleigh Pelham from Halifax clinched the coveted title of Season 12 winner. Pelham's triumph earned her a grand total of $200,000 in winnings and prizes, including substantial cash rewards, tech packages, luxurious vacations, and even a brand-new 2024 INFINITI QX60 SUV.

Despite its ardent following, Big Brother Canada encountered criticism when live feeds were discontinued in Season 11, replaced by Digital Dailies videos. While these changes sparked debate among fans about the show's direction, the decision to cancel marks the end of an era for Big Brother Canada.
