Costco is recalling its yogurt for the second time this month due to potential health risks. Danone Canada, the manufacturer, announced that their Kirkland Signature Probiotic Yogurt could contain a strain of yeast that might cause illness in individuals with weakened immune systems.
The recall covers 24-packs of 100-gram servings of the yogurt, which were sold at Costco locations in Canada between September 3 and September 19, according to a notice posted on Costco's website on September 23. The affected products have best-before dates of October 18, October 20, and October 22.
Danone emphasized that the food safety risk is minimal, as the yeast typically does not grow in cold temperatures. However, they advised customers not to consume the yogurt and to return it to Costco for a full refund.
This marks the second yogurt recall at Costco this month. Earlier in September, Kirkland Signature Greek yogurt was pulled from shelves due to mold contamination.
The recalled products were distributed across several provinces, including Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan, as reported by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
