Instead of 6 p.m., Costco Warehouses across Canada will close at 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays going forward in 2026.

Costco Canada has delivered a welcome gift to shoppers just ahead of the holidays. The warehouse giant is making its extended weekend hours a year-round feature, giving customers more time to stock up on groceries, browse deals, or grab the iconic $1.50 hot dog combo.

This decision arrives as Costco continues to dominate the Canadian grocery landscape. A recent industry study named Costco the country’s top grocery retailer. Shoppers applaud its competitive prices, strong rewards program, and efficient operations.

A Change That’s Here to Stay

For years, Canadians enjoyed longer weekend shopping hours only during the peak holiday season. Now, Costco has confirmed those hours will remain in place permanently. The announcement came through a short Instagram video posted by the company, creating immediate excitement among loyal members.

Beginning in the new year, all Costco warehouses across Canada will stay open until 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Previously, locations closed at 6 p.m., often leading to packed aisles and hurried shopping trips. The change is expected to improve crowd flow and offer more convenience for busy families.

Updated Store Hours Nationwide

Customers can now plan their visits with these updated hours:

• Monday to Friday: 9 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
• Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Holiday closures remain in effect. All Costco stores across Canada will close on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Shoppers Flock to Growing Locations

Ontario continues to see strong warehouse expansion. The province currently has more than 40 locations, including a new site in East Gwillimbury, north of Newmarket. As holiday shopping season ramps up, thousands are expected to visit stores this weekend searching for gifts and festive essentials.

Costco’s ability to attract crowds reflects members’ trust in the retailer’s value-driven approach. Promotions, high-quality private label products, and efficient service keep customers coming back.

Membership Still Required

To access shelves stacked with bulk bargains, a membership is necessary. Canadians can choose from two main options:

• Gold Star or Business membership: $65 plus tax
• Executive membership: $130

Executive members also earn a two per cent annual reward on qualified purchases, with a maximum payout of $1,250. For many households, that benefit alone covers the cost of membership.

A Convenience Boost for 2025

The permanent shift to longer weekend hours marks another step in Costco’s ongoing commitment to shopper convenience. More time in the aisles means less stress and a more relaxed shopping experience. It also positions Costco to remain a strong competitor as consumers continue seeking value amid rising grocery costs.

With larger windows to shop and new stores opening, Costco appears well-prepared to maintain its leadership in Canadian retail — one extended weekend at a time.
