A scene from Daredevil: Born Again.

The latest episode of Daredevil: Born Again has raised the stakes yet again (Spoiler Alert!). After killing off Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) in the season premiere, the show delivers another major death in Episode 3, leaving fans stunned.

A Trial Filled with Tension

The episode centers on the high-profile trial of Hector Ayala (played by the late Kamar de los Reyes), better known as the vigilante White Tiger. He stands accused of killing an NYPD officer in the previous episode. However, the real story is far more complicated.

Hector was actually trying to stop two corrupt officers from harassing a man near the subway. In the chaos, he accidentally pushed one of them into an oncoming train. Later, these same officers attempted to intimidate the man in his own apartment—only to be met by Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), who delivered his signature brutal justice.

Now, Matt is defending Hector in court, but the odds are against them. The courtroom is packed with police officers who want revenge for their fallen comrade.

Witness Tampering and a Bold Strategy

As the trial unfolds, Matt calls the man Hector saved to testify. However, the witness barely makes it to the courtroom in time. The corrupt cops, led by Officer Powell (Hamish Allan-Headley), had already threatened him into changing his story. His altered testimony puts Hector’s fate in jeopardy.

Determined to turn the case around, Matt aggressively cross-examines the remaining police witnesses. Then, in a dramatic move, Hector takes the stand. To everyone’s surprise, Matt unveils Hector’s White Tiger mask in front of the entire courtroom, revealing his vigilante identity. While Hector is caught off guard by Matt’s strategy, it works. The jury finds him not guilty.

A Short-Lived Victory

Hector walks free, but his newfound freedom is heartbreakingly short. In the final moments of the episode, he suits up once again as White Tiger and heads out on patrol. Before he can take action, an unknown figure guns him down in the street.

The killer’s face remains unseen, but one chilling detail stands out—he wears a black outfit emblazoned with the Punisher’s iconic white skull logo.

Who Pulled the Trigger?

Hector’s death leaves many questions. Could this be the return of Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, aka the Punisher? Without a clear view of the shooter’s face, it remains uncertain. However, this isn’t the first time the Punisher’s logo has surfaced in Daredevil: Born Again. Officer Powell was briefly seen sporting a tattoo of the skull emblem in Episode 2, raising further suspicion.

There’s also another threat looming in the city—a serial killer known as Muse. Or could this be the work of Mayor Wilson Fisk’s (Vincent D’Onofrio) enforcers, cracking down on vigilante crime?

The Future of White Tiger

While Hector’s death is tragic, his legacy may live on. In the comics, his family carries on the White Tiger mantle. His niece, Angela, and sister, Ava, both inherit the role, thanks to a magical jade amulet that grants enhanced strength.

With Daredevil: Born Again introducing deep comic lore, it’s possible another White Tiger could rise in the episodes ahead.

Fans will have to wait and see how the mystery unfolds. Daredevil: Born Again streams Tuesdays on Disney+.
