The Directors Guild of America (DGA) will honor Francis Ford Coppola at its 25th DGA Honors event this October.

On October 17, Coppola will be celebrated at a ceremony held at the DGA Theater in New York, marking the guild’s first such event since 2018. Coppola, now 85, has been nominated by the DGA five times and has won the award for outstanding directorial achievement twice, for his work on 1972's “The Godfather” and its 1974 sequel. His latest film, “Megalopolis,” which is his first feature in 13 years, is set to hit theaters on September 27.

“Megalopolis,” which Coppola personally funded, had its premiere in May at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received mixed reactions. The film will have its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

In addition to Coppola, the DGA will also pay tribute to former CBS News executive Susan Zirinsky, the brother-and-sister team Tony and Gina Argento of Broadway Stages, and the arthouse film company Criterion.

Lesli Linka Glatter, DGA president, expressed the guild’s excitement about the upcoming event, stating, “We are incredibly proud to celebrate the 25th anniversary of DGA Honors and to acknowledge the visionary storytellers who have made significant contributions to American culture through their work in film and television.”
