One of the doctors involved in the case of actor Matthew Perry’s death has admitted to supplying ketamine. Federal prosecutors confirmed that Dr. Salvador Plasencia pleaded guilty to four counts of drug distribution.

Sentencing Date Set
Plasencia will be sentenced on December 3. Each count carries a possible sentence of up to 10 years in federal prison. He could face a total of 40 years behind bars. Along with prison time, he may have to pay up to $2 million in fines or double the money made from the crime, whichever is higher. He is also expected to pay a mandatory $400 special fee.

Will Surrender Medical License
Though he is still free on bond, Plasencia plans to surrender his medical license within six weeks, as shared by his legal team. His lawyers also released a statement saying he is deeply sorry for his choices.

Full Responsibility Taken
“He is fully accepting responsibility by pleading guilty to drug distribution,” the statement said. “He is profoundly remorseful for the treatment decisions he made while providing ketamine to Matthew Perry.” It added that the doctor failed to protect Perry, who was especially vulnerable because of his addiction history.

Doctor Leaves Court After Plea
Plasencia appeared in federal court in Los Angeles on July 23, 2025. Photos showed him leaving the courthouse after entering his guilty plea. This marks a major moment in the investigation into Perry’s death.

More People Involved
Plasencia is not the only person charged. He is one of five individuals linked to the case. Prosecutors said that a secret network of drug suppliers was behind the flow of ketamine that reached Perry. Authorities believe this illegal group played a direct role in the actor’s tragic death.

Details of Perry’s Death
Matthew Perry, best known for his role in the TV show Friends, died at age 54. His body was discovered in a hot tub at his home in Pacific Palisades in October 2023. The official cause of death was listed as “acute effects” of ketamine and drowning.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office performed the autopsy. It confirmed that the high level of ketamine in his system was the main reason for his death.

What Happens Next
With Plasencia admitting guilt, focus now shifts to the other accused. Investigators continue to look into how the underground drug ring operated and who else may be held responsible.

Plasencia’s sentencing in December will reveal how the court chooses to punish his actions. His guilty plea may affect the outcomes of the cases involving the remaining suspects.
