Over 100,000 Drinkmate 1-litre bottles recalled in U.S. and Canada after reports they can burst during use. ABC News
More than 100,000 Drinkmate carbonation bottles are being recalled in the United States and Canada. The bottles can explode while in use, putting people at risk of injuries.
Recall Details
The recall affects Drinkmate 1-litre Carbonation Bottles. These bottles were sold on their own or included in the “OmniFizz” starter kits. Regulators confirmed that about 106,200 bottles were sold in the U.S. and 5,000 in Canada.
The recall was announced after several reports of bottles bursting during use. Officials are warning consumers to stop using these bottles immediately.
Injuries Reported
In the U.S., Drinkmate received eight reports of bottles exploding. Four people suffered injuries such as cuts, bruises, and hearing damage.
In Canada, one report confirmed a bottle shattered during use, leaving the customer with bruises.
Bottles Under Recall
The recall covers bottles with expiration dates between January 2026 and October 2026. They have clear bodies made of polyethylene terephthalate, with coloured caps and bases. The caps and bases come in red, blue, white, or black.
Although the exact cause of the explosions has not been confirmed, only bottles within the listed expiry dates are affected.
Where They Were Sold
The recalled bottles were sold between April 2023 and October 2024. They were available online at Drinkmate’s official website and through major retailers like Walmart, Amazon, Target, and Home Depot.
Because the bottles were sold so widely, thousands of households may still have them. Officials are urging customers to act quickly to prevent accidents.
What Consumers Should Do
Anyone with these bottles should stop using them right away. Customers can request a free replacement directly from Drinkmate.
To do this, you must:
- Fill out an online form on the company’s website.
- Upload a photo of the recalled bottle with the word “recall” written on it using permanent marker.
- Dispose of the bottle according to the instructions provided.
After completing the process, Drinkmate will send a replacement bottle at no cost.
Company Response
Drinkmate says it is working with regulators in both countries to ensure safety. The company also assured customers that bottles outside the listed expiry dates are safe to use.
Consumers who want more details can visit Drinkmate’s website and register for the recall.
A Serious Warning
Exploding bottles may sound unusual, but even one incident can cause painful injuries. Officials say customers should not take chances. If you own a recalled Drinkmate bottle, stop using it and request a replacement.
