Canadians have something new to add to their grocery carts — the country’s first-ever Butter Potato. The new product, created by EarthFresh, promises to change how people think about potatoes with its rich flavour, creamy texture, and natural buttery taste.

After more than ten years of research, EarthFresh has officially launched Butter Potatoes across Canada. The new varieties — Butter Golds, Butter Reds, and Butter Russets — are already available in stores nationwide.

Each type offers something unique. Butter Golds are perfect for mashing, Butter Reds for roasting, and Butter Russets for baking. Their smooth texture and golden interiors create a buttery taste that doesn’t even need added butter.

A Decade of Development

Jessica Anderson (Hughes), Vice President of Marketing and Innovation at EarthFresh, said the launch marks a big step forward for the company.

“At EarthFresh, we’re committed to bringing freshness and innovation to the produce aisle, and Butter Potatoes perfectly embody that vision,” she explained. “After more than a decade of research and development, our Butter Potato varieties are unlike anything else on the market.”

She added that the nationwide rollout shows the company’s dedication to quality and to meeting Canadians’ growing interest in premium produce.

Designed for Taste and Versatility

EarthFresh’s new potato line isn’t just about flavour — it’s also about consistency and quality. The company carefully grows and grades each variety to ensure smooth, creamy, and nutritious results every time.

Experts have even conducted detailed taste and texture tests, scoring the potatoes for their unique qualities. According to these studies, Butter Potatoes offer a natural, rich flavour that sets them apart from traditional varieties.

To showcase their potential, EarthFresh has teamed up with Chef Yann Nury, who has helped develop new recipes using the Butter Potato line.

“Butter Potatoes are a chef’s dream — incredibly adaptable, delicious, and consistently perfect,” said Nury. “They elevate any dish, from home-cooked favourites to restaurant creations. Without a doubt, they’re my potato of choice.”

From the U.S. Success to Canadian Launch

The Butter Potato already made waves in the United States, where it first debuted in select markets and quickly sold out. Now, with its Canadian launch, EarthFresh has reintroduced the product with new packaging made from sustainable materials and a refreshed brand look.

Before the Canadian rollout, a national consumer study showed impressive results. According to the survey, 83 per cent of Canadian shoppers said they would likely buy Butter Potatoes, showing strong interest even before the product hit store shelves.

What to Expect in Stores

The new Butter Potato varieties are now sold in 5 lb bags at grocery stores across Canada. Here’s what shoppers can expect:

  • Butter Golds: Smooth golden skin and rich yellow flesh. Creamy and naturally buttery, ideal for mashing or roasting.
  • Butter Reds: Red skin with golden flesh. Holds shape when cooked, great for boiling or roasting.
  • Butter Russets: Golden-fleshed russet with a fluffy texture. Perfect for baking, frying, or mashing.

Each variety pairs beautifully with meats, vegetables, or sauces — offering a balance of flavour and comfort that fits everyday cooking or special occasions.

A New Favourite for Canadian Kitchens

With their rich taste, creamy texture, and easy versatility, EarthFresh’s Butter Potatoes are expected to become a new kitchen staple across Canada. Whether mashed, roasted, or baked, they promise the buttery goodness Canadians love — without the butter.
