FBI officials are growing more worried about a dangerous network of online predators who are targeting teenagers. These predators befriend young people on popular social media platforms and push them into increasingly harmful and violent behaviors. Some victims are forced to make explicit videos, harm their pets, self-harm, or even take their own lives.

The predators, part of a group called "764," demand that their victims send shocking images and videos. These are then shared with other followers or used to blackmail the victims into doing even worse things. Some predators even host live online events where others can watch them torment young people.

FBI Assistant Director David Scott said, "We see a lot of bad things, but this is one of the most disturbing things we're seeing."

FBI Investigates Over 250 Cases

The FBI is investigating over 250 cases linked to the 764 group, with all of its 55 field offices across the country handling cases related to the network. Scott explained that some victims are as young as nine, and there may be thousands of victims worldwide.

One mother from Connecticut shared how her teenage daughter got caught up in the network. "It was very difficult to process because we didn’t raise her to engage in that kind of activity," she said.

The girl, a former honor student, was arrested after she worked with a 764 follower overseas to send bomb threats to her own community. Police found disturbing photos of her on her devices, including explicit images and ones showing self-harm.

764’s Mission of Chaos

Scott described 764 as an organization that thrives on creating chaos. The FBI and the Justice Department's National Security Division now view it as a form of domestic terrorism. Authorities have even coined a new term to describe the worst offenders—“nihilistic violent extremists.”

Scott explained that within the 764 network, doing the most harm to victims boosts one’s status. The group encourages violence and depravity, and many members share their disturbing content as a way to gain respect among others. Some even look up to past tragedies like the 1999 Columbine High School shooting, and they introduce victims to extreme ideologies such as neo-Nazism or Satanism.

Recent Arrests and Ongoing Investigations

Authorities have arrested multiple people linked to 764. For instance, 24-year-old Jairo Tinajero from Arkansas plotted to murder a 14-year-old girl who resisted his demands. Tinajero believed the act would increase his standing in the network. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy and child pornography charges.

In another case, Jack Rocker, 19, was arrested after he amassed over 8,000 disturbing images and videos. He had organized them into folders with disturbing titles like “764” and “ISIS.” He was sentenced to seven years in prison.

More arrests are still happening, including the arrest of Prasan Nepal, who allegedly helped run a club dedicated to 764’s activities.

Global Reach of 764

Originally created on Discord by a teenager named Bradley Cadenhead, 764 has grown into a global movement with offshoots and subgroups. The network constantly changes its name to avoid detection by law enforcement. Cadenhead, now in prison, founded the group when he was just 15 years old.

Detective Tommy Van Tasel from Vernon Police emphasized that 764 isn’t just one group—it’s a widespread ideology that can pop up anywhere. It’s not just the original 764 group; many other networks have adopted similar tactics to encourage harmful behavior.

How Predators Operate

Predators often target young people on gaming platforms like Roblox and then move their conversations to Discord, where they can manipulate and control their victims. One Connecticut girl, for example, met a predator on Roblox, and they started communicating regularly. Over time, he convinced her to send explicit photos of herself, and he threatened to share them if she didn’t comply with further demands.

She even created content for the group, including a photo of a Barbie doll with "764" written on its forehead and photos of herself cutting her skin. In one extreme act of devotion, she wrote a note in her blood calling her predator "a god."

Signs to Watch Out For

Authorities warn parents to be vigilant and look for changes in their children's behavior. This includes noticing unexplained injuries, self-harm, or signs of distress. Parents should also keep track of what their kids are doing online, especially on gaming platforms and apps.

FBI experts also urge parents to have open conversations with their children about online safety and to report any concerning behavior to authorities.

Recovery and Support for Victims

While the Connecticut girl is now cooperating with authorities, her mother shared that her daughter is on the path to recovery. "She's getting there," her mother said, adding that the girl is slowly returning to normal activities and socializing with friends again.
