Fashion legend Giorgio Armani is skipping the runway spotlight this Milan Fashion Week—but not the creative reins. The 90-year-old icon is currently recovering at home and will not appear at the end of his Emporio Armani or Giorgio Armani shows, his fashion house announced on Friday.
No specific details were shared about his condition, but the statement confirmed he is “recovering at home” and will be monitoring every detail of the shows remotely.
The Show Goes On—Just Without Armani’s Bow
For decades, Armani’s post-show appearances have been as anticipated as the collections themselves. This time, however, his longtime right-hand man and head of menswear, Leo Dell’Orco, will take the final bow.
The Emporio Armani Spring-Summer 2026 menswear collection will debut Saturday. The Giorgio Armani line will close Milan’s menswear showcase on Monday.
A Golden Year, Marked Quietly
2024 isn’t just another year for Armani—it’s his 50th year at the helm of the brand that bears his name. And in just a few weeks, on July 11, the fashion world’s most enduring minimalist turns 91.
Yet Armani’s work ethic hasn’t slowed. According to the statement, he approached these latest collections “with his usual dedication.” His absence may be physical, but his presence is stitched into every detail of what hits the runway.
Still Working, Even After a Fall
Armani has long been known for pushing through pain. Back in 2021, after a fall during a cinema visit, he appeared at his first post-pandemic show with a visible surgical scar on his arm. Despite the injury, he led not just that menswear presentation but also an Armani Privé couture show.
That moment, like now, signalled the strength behind the sleek suits and quiet luxury.
Will He Return for the Next Season?
Whether this marks a shift in Armani’s public role remains to be seen. For now, his loyal global audience will have to settle for his vision on the catwalk, not his wave at the end.
But one thing’s certain—Armani doesn’t need to stand on the runway to make a statement. This Milan Fashion Week, his collections will do the talking.
