A Canadian man lost his life in a drive-by shooting while on a golf trip in Wisconsin this week, police and family members confirmed.
Tragic Incident in Sheboygan Falls
Giovanni Michael Robinson, 32, from Stouffville, Ontario, was shot early Wednesday in downtown Sheboygan Falls. The small town, near Lake Michigan’s west coast, has a population of just over 8,000.
Police found Robinson with a single gunshot wound when they arrived at the scene. Despite efforts to save him, he died at the spot. Authorities believe a small, dark SUV was involved in the shooting. No arrests have been made yet.
The police continue to interview witnesses and collect evidence. “Our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences go out to the Robinson family and loved ones,” the police said in a statement. They added that the motive behind the shooting remains unknown.
Family Shares Heartbreak
Robinson’s brother, Jacob, said Mike, as he was known to family and friends, was on his yearly golf trip when he was killed. Mike had moved to Pennsylvania with his American wife. The couple welcomed a baby girl six weeks ago.
“He was one-of-a-kind,” Jacob said. “There’s literally no one like him. I looked up to him. Everything he touched turned to gold.”
Mike loved sports and played hockey and golf. Just hours before the shooting, he celebrated a hole-in-one at Whistling Straits Golf Course in Sheboygan.
Jacob explained that Mike left the golf course with his in-laws, had dinner, and went to a local bar that night. “It was just a regular Tuesday night,” Jacob said. “The rest is kind of a mystery right now.”
Loved Ones Remember Mike
Mike’s cousin, Daniella Apostolakos, said the family wants justice. “He was a beautiful human, always happy and smiling,” she said. “He had such a zest for life. We’re still in shock.”
A GoFundMe page for Mike described him as a “beautiful soul.” It said Mike was eager to be a father and quickly embraced his new role. “It is most heartbreaking to know he will never hold his baby girl again.”
Canadian Government Responds
Global Affairs Canada confirmed it is aware of the death of a Canadian citizen in Wisconsin. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones,” a spokesperson said. They added that consular officials are working with local authorities and the family to offer support.
