Emilia Perez: Netflix; The Bear: FX via Variety

The 2025 Golden Globe nominations are out, and Emilia Pérez has taken center stage with an impressive 10 nods. Directed by Jacques Audiard, the Netflix-acquired musical comedy about a drug cartel was a standout at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The film earned nominations for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Director for Audiard, acting nods for Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez, and Karla Sofia Gascón, as well as recognition for its screenplay, score, and more.

Close behind is Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist, an A24 drama about a Hungarian architect facing the pressures of an enigmatic art patron. The film earned seven nominations, including Best Motion Picture – Drama. Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones received acting nods, with Guy Pearce recognized in the supporting category. The film also landed mentions for its score and screenplay.

Another strong contender is Focus Features’ Conclave, which secured six nominations. Ralph Fiennes was honored with a Best Actor nomination for his role as a conflicted priest overseeing a high-stakes papal election. Co-star Isabella Rossellini received a nod for Supporting Actress, and the film garnered recognition for its screenplay, score, and Best Picture – Drama.

Other notable films with multiple nominations include Anora, Challengers, A Real Pain, the highly anticipated Wicked, and Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance, which surprised many by earning four nods, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley were both recognized for their performances, while Fargeat received a directing nomination.

This year also brought attention to several double and even triple nominees. Sebastian Stan is up for Best Actor in a Motion Picture in both the Comedy/Musical (A Different Man) and Drama (The Apprentice) categories. Kate Winslet earned recognition for her work in the biopic Lee and HBO’s The Regime. Selena Gomez received nominations for her role in Emilia Pérez and Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building. Audiard himself is up for directing, screenwriting, and his contribution to the original song "El Mal."

On the television side, FX/Hulu’s The Bear leads with five nominations, including Best Musical/Comedy Series and acting nods for Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Liza Colón-Zayas. Only Murders in the Building and Shogun follow with four nominations each. Netflix’s surprise hit Nobody Wants This also made a splash, earning nods for acting and Best Musical/Comedy Series.

Newcomer shows like Baby Reindeer, Disclaimer, and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story secured three nominations each. Meanwhile, the inclusion of Squid Game’s second season for Best Series – Drama raised eyebrows, as the new season won’t debut on Netflix until late December.

This year marks the second round of two new Golden Globe categories. The Stand-Up Comedy Special category features nominees like Jamie Foxx, Nikki Glaser, Seth Meyers, Adam Sandler, Ali Wong, and Ramy Youssef. The Global Box Office Achievement award will see blockbuster contenders like Wicked, Deadpool & Wolverine, Inside Out 2, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice competing for the honor.

As the countdown to the 2025 Golden Globes begins, it’s shaping up to be a year of exciting surprises and tight races across both film and television.
