For the second consecutive day, Google Chromecast users are struggling with an issue that has rendered their devices useless for streaming. The problem is primarily affecting second-generation Chromecast models, leaving users unable to watch their favourite shows and movies on platforms like Netflix and YouTube. Chromecast Audio devices are also experiencing disruptions.
Google, which has sold over 100 million Chromecast units globally across different generations, has acknowledged the issue and assured users that a fix is on the way. However, the company has strongly advised against attempting a factory reset, warning that it could complicate the situation further.
"Do not factory reset your device," Google cautioned in a post on the Google Nest support forum. "We will keep you updated when the fix rolls out. If you have already performed a factory reset, we will provide instructions to set your device back up as soon as possible."
Unfortunately, many users had already attempted a reset before Google's advisory, believing it to be the best troubleshooting method. Social media platforms quickly filled with complaints from frustrated customers, some mocking Google's belated warning.

In 2015, Google introduced the second version of Chromecast and also launched Chromecast Audio, a device designed specifically for streaming music.
"Factory reset is the first thing I did when my Chromecast stopped working," one user vented on X (formerly Twitter). Another quipped, "Telling people not to factory reset after they've already done it is just classic Google."
Chromecast, a popular device that plugs into TVs, allows users to wirelessly stream videos, music, and other content from their smartphones or laptops. It also lets users mirror web pages from Google's Chrome browser onto their television screens.
The first reports of streaming failures surfaced on Sunday evening when users encountered authentication errors, failed connections, and messages stating their devices were "untrusted." This unexpected glitch has left many scrambling for alternatives while waiting for Google’s promised fix.
In August 2024, Google announced plans to phase out Chromecast, replacing it with its newer Google TV system. Despite discontinuing the 11-year-old device, the company assured users that existing Chromecasts would continue receiving support and updates. However, the current technical issue has raised concerns among users about the future reliability of Google's streaming devices.
As customers wait for a resolution, many are left wondering whether this is just a temporary hiccup or a sign that Google's commitment to Chromecast support is fading faster than expected.
