The newly elected mayor of a small town in western Germany is fighting for her life after a brutal stabbing outside her home.
Iris Stalzer, 57, was found with severe injuries around midday Tuesday in the city of Herdecke, located in the Ruhr region. Police confirmed she suffered life-threatening wounds and was rushed to hospital by helicopter.
Officials said her condition remains critical, and doctors continue to fight to save her.
Police Investigate Possible Family Connection
Police said there was no sign that the attack was politically motivated. Investigators believe the motive may involve personal or family matters. “Based on current information, there are no indications that the attack was politically motivated. A family background is assumed,” police in Hagen said.
