Carolina Hurricanes' Jake Guentzel (59) congratulates Teuvo Teravainen (86) on his goal during the second period in Game 2 of an NHL hockey Stanley Cup first-round playoff series against the New York Islanders in Raleigh, N.C., Monday, April 22, 2024

April 24, 2024

In a thrilling NHL playoff matchup, the Carolina Hurricanes staged a remarkable comeback against the New York Islanders. Trailing by three goals, Sebastian Aho and Jordan Martinook scored late in the third period to secure a stunning 5-3 victory for the Hurricanes. The win gives them a 2-0 lead in the first-round series.

Aho tied the game with a deflected shot, followed by Martinook's quick wraparound goal just 9 seconds later. The Hurricanes' relentless pressure and strong forecheck ultimately overwhelmed the Islanders. Teuvo Teravainen and Seth Jarvis also contributed goals to Carolina's comeback effort.

The Islanders, who initially led 3-0 with goals from Kyle Palmieri, Bo Horvat, and Anders Lee, struggled to maintain their advantage. Penalties and defensive lapses allowed Carolina to seize control of the game, leading to their dramatic turnaround.

The series now heads to New York, with the Hurricanes holding momentum as they aim to extend their lead in Game 3. Despite the loss, the Islanders remain determined to bounce back and even the series on home ice.
