Tensions in the Middle East are spiralling. U.S. President Donald Trump announced he will decide within two weeks whether America will directly attack Iran. This announcement comes as the conflict between Israel and Iran enters its seventh straight day, leaving hundreds dead and injured on both sides.

U.S. Weighs Strike on Iran’s Nuclear Facility

Trump is considering a direct military strike on Iran’s heavily fortified Fordo uranium enrichment facility. Located deep under a mountain, the site is believed to be nearly unreachable without U.S. "bunker-buster" bombs. The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, read out Trump’s statement, emphasizing the possibility of renewed nuclear talks with Iran.

Despite the potential for diplomacy, the option of military action remains active. Trump is expected to make a final decision based on how negotiations unfold in the coming days.

Israeli Officials Target Iran's Supreme Leader

Tensions flared further when Iran launched missile strikes into southern Israel. A major hospital in Beersheba was hit, wounding over 240 people and causing widespread panic. In response, Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz made a chilling threat toward Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stating he "should not continue to exist."

As patients were being rushed out of the burning hospital, Israeli fighter jets retaliated with strikes on Iranian nuclear infrastructure. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking from the damaged Soroka Medical Center, expressed confidence in Trump, stating, “They’re already helping a lot.”

Diplomatic Channels Open Amid Escalation

Despite the violence, diplomatic efforts are taking shape. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is set to meet European Union and key European diplomats in Geneva. Discussions will center around cooling the rising conflict and possibly reviving nuclear negotiations.

Britain’s Foreign Secretary David Lammy met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and envoy Steve Witkoff at the White House. He posted on social media, “A window now exists within the next two weeks to achieve a diplomatic solution.”

The urgency is evident. The longer the conflict lasts, the slimmer the chances of peaceful negotiation.

The Human Toll: Hundreds Dead, Thousands Wounded

The Israel-Iran war began with a surprise Israeli airstrike campaign targeting nuclear and military facilities. According to a Washington-based Iranian rights group, over 657 people in Iran have died, including 263 civilians. More than 2,000 have been injured.

Iran retaliated with over 450 missiles and 1,000 drones. Most were intercepted by Israel’s air defense systems, but at least 24 Israeli citizens have died and many more have been injured.

Soroka Medical Center in the Crosshairs

Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba bore the brunt of Thursday’s missile attack. At least 80 patients and staff were wounded. Fortunately, many had been evacuated earlier due to rising threats. The missile damaged critical hospital infrastructure—water, gas, and air-conditioning systems—and severely impacted an old surgical unit.

Iran claimed it targeted a nearby Israeli military technology hub and not the hospital itself. The Gav-Yam Negev tech park, just 2 miles away, hosts the C4i military unit. However, an Israeli military official, speaking anonymously, confirmed there was no intel suggesting Iran specifically targeted the hospital.

Emergency Measures Activated Across Israel

Hospitals across Israel, including Soroka, have implemented emergency protocols. Patients were moved underground, and parking garages converted into wards. A fortified underground blood bank was also activated—an asset created during the aftermath of the 2023 Hamas attack.

Doctors at Soroka reported that the missile struck almost immediately after sirens sounded. The explosion was felt even inside secure rooms. The hospital, serving nearly a million people, has now limited its operations to critical care only.

The Clock Is Ticking on War or Peace

With violence escalating and diplomatic discussions gaining momentum, the world watches as Trump weighs America’s role. Whether the U.S. chooses diplomacy or direct military action will shape not just this regional war, but the global balance of power in the coming weeks.
