Israeli jet mistakenly drops bomb near Nir Yitzhak, no one hurt. Newsx

An Israeli fighter jet accidentally dropped a bomb near the Nir Yitzhak kibbutz, a small Israeli community close to the Gaza border, on Tuesday night. The Israeli military confirmed the incident, saying it happened due to a technical issue during a mission.

The kibbutz, located just two miles from Gaza, saw the bomb land in an open farmland area nearby. The military said no one was hurt. Officials are now looking into the cause of the malfunction.

“A short while ago, a munition fell from an IDF fighter jet that was on its way to a mission in the Gaza Strip. The munition landed in an open area near Nir Yitzhak due to a technical malfunction,” the Israeli military said in its official statement.

The IDF has not shared what kind of bomb it was or how the issue occurred. A spokesperson for Nir Yitzhak said the bomb fell in a farming zone and did not cause any harm to people or homes. The kibbutz is working closely with military officials and expects them to carry out a full investigation.

This mistake adds to a string of recent incidents involving military equipment. Although such accidents rarely happen, this is not the first time it has occurred. Last year, a fighter jet also dropped a bomb near the nearby village of Yated. That bomb didn’t explode and was safely removed by Israeli forces.

In another case, a tank shell fired into southern Gaza veered off course and landed near the Israeli border fence. Shrapnel from that blast damaged a car on the Israeli side.

Nir Yitzhak is home to around 550 people. The kibbutz faced serious violence during the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack. Many families had to leave for safety. However, as of February 2025, about half of the community has returned.

Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza continue. On April 9, the Israeli military said it targeted a senior Hamas figure. That airstrike hit a residential building in Gaza City’s Shujaiyya neighborhood. Gaza's civil defense says the strike killed at least 20 people.

This incident with the dropped bomb adds another layer of concern for residents already living in a tense region. While no one was injured this time, residents and officials want answers. The community hopes the investigation will help avoid similar events in the future.
