The 2025 American Music Awards lit up Las Vegas with electrifying performances and unforgettable moments. Back after a two-year hiatus, the AMAs returned with all the star-studded glamour fans had been waiting for.
Janet Jackson Crowned a True Icon
The biggest moment of the night belonged to Janet Jackson. At 59, she was honoured with the prestigious ICON Award. Known for shaping modern pop and R&B, Jackson performed live on television for the first time since 2018. She opened her set with "Someone to Call My Lover," followed by a high-energy version of "All for You."
Dressed in jeans, a white puffer coat, and a tee, Jackson owned the stage with grace and grit. Her dance break, backed by a roaring guitar solo, sent the crowd into a frenzy. In an emotional speech, Jackson reflected on her journey.
“I don’t consider myself an icon,” she said. “Our dream was never fame. It was always music.”
She dedicated the honor to her family and fans, calling her success “an American story.” She added, “Because of you and God, I’m standing right here.”

Billie Eilish Wins Big, Lamar Falls Short
Billie Eilish took home the coveted Artist of the Year award, outshining top contender Kendrick Lamar. Despite leading with ten nominations, Lamar walked away with just one win — Favorite Hip-Hop Song.
Post Malone had eight nominations and secured two wins — Favorite Country Song and Favorite Male Country Artist. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift, who already holds 40 AMA wins, didn’t attend and left empty-handed. Fans had hoped for a major announcement from Swift, possibly a new album reveal, but the night passed without a surprise.
J.Lo Shines as Host and Performer
Jennifer Lopez returned as host for the second time, a decade after her 2015 debut. She kicked off the show with a dynamic dance number and brought her signature charisma to the stage all night long.
Lopez’s presence brought excitement and energy. “Jennifer’s talent and stage presence make her the perfect host,” said Dick Clark Productions CEO Jay Penske ahead of the show.
Celebrating Legends and Performances
Rod Stewart was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Other notable performances included Benson Boone, Gwen Stefani, and the legendary Janet Jackson herself.
The AMAs, which began in 1974, are known for celebrating music driven by fan votes. After skipping 2023 and 2024, the show made a grand comeback for its 50th anniversary at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas.
This year’s broadcast aired live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+ with Showtime. Viewers with Paramount+ Essential will be able to catch it on demand.
The AMAs Are Back—and So Is Janet
Janet Jackson's tribute set the tone for a show that honored both legacy and new talent. As she returns to her Las Vegas residency later this month, one thing is clear — Janet is not just back. She’s unforgettable.
