When Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck concluded their marriage, they each retained their respective personal belongings and assets.

The divorce was finalized on Monday, January 6, according to court documents. Both parties agreed to divide their assets and liabilities equitably, thereby avoiding further legal disputes or expenses.

Lopez, 55, retained her personal belongings, including clothing, jewelry, and other items in her possession, as well as all earnings and assets acquired since their separation date, April 26, 2024. She also kept half of their joint bank accounts. Affleck, 52, secured the same arrangement for his personal assets.

The two also decided to split ownership of their $60 million Beverly Hills mansion, which is currently listed for sale, though the details of that division remain confidential.

Affleck maintained his stake in the Artists Equity production company, which he co-founded with Matt Damon in November 2022. As part of the agreement, he is responsible for any debts, liabilities, or claims tied to the company and has indemnified Lopez against such obligations.

The couple reached their settlement through mediation in September. As part of the process, Lopez chose to drop “Affleck” from her surname and legally restored her name to Jennifer Lynn Lopez. She initially filed for divorce in August 2024, submitting the paperwork herself on the second anniversary of their Georgia wedding, even though the couple had separated months earlier.

Legal experts suggested at the time that Lopez’s decision to forgo an attorney for the filing might have been a deliberate move to signal that the separation would proceed amicably. Reports indicated that the couple had likely resolved most issues privately before making their split public.

Lopez and Affleck share a long and storied history. The two first met while filming Gigli in 2001 and became engaged in November 2002. However, their initial engagement ended in January 2004, shortly after postponing their September 2003 wedding. Nearly two decades later, they rekindled their romance in May 2021, leading to a second engagement in April 2022. They wed in Las Vegas in July of that year, followed by a grander ceremony in Georgia the following month.

This marked Lopez’s fourth marriage. She was previously married to Ojani Noa, Cris Judd, and Marc Anthony, with whom she shares twins, Max and Emme. Affleck was formerly married to Jennifer Garner, with whom he has three children: Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel.

Speculation about marital troubles arose in May 2024, when Lopez and Affleck were not seen together publicly for over six weeks. Reports later confirmed that Affleck had moved out of their shared home. By June, sources close to the couple revealed that they had been unable to reconcile their differences and had begun discussing divorce as a potential resolution.
