After months on the road to close out 2024, the Winnipeg Jets are finally back on home ice to welcome the Anaheim Ducks, launching an eight-game home stand on Thursday night. The team will enjoy a rare stretch of home games in January, playing away only four times, a much-needed breather for the players and their families.
Defenceman Dylan DeMelo expressed excitement about the opportunity to play in front of their fans, emphasizing the comfort and stability of staying home. “It’s nice knowing what each day will look like. Plus, guys with families get to spend quality time with them,” he said.
Captain Adam Lowry sees the home stand as a chance to sharpen their performance. “We focus on daily improvement so we’re ready for the postseason. Being at home gives us time to address concerns we might miss on the road,” Lowry shared.
However, the Jets aren’t taking their upcoming opponents lightly. Head Coach Scott Arniel stressed the importance of staying focused on each game. “You can’t win all eight games at once. Right now, we’re concentrating on beating Anaheim,” Arniel said.
The Ducks arrive in Winnipeg riding high after recent victories over top teams like the Edmonton Oilers and New Jersey Devils. In their last faceoff with the Jets in December, Anaheim secured a narrow 3-2 win. DeMelo highlighted the Ducks’ strengths, saying, “They’re structured, fast, and physical. We need to be sharp tonight.”
Hellebuyck Aims for 300th Career Win
A significant milestone is within reach for Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, who is one win away from his 300th career victory. The achievement has been a personal goal for Hellebuyck, whose consistent excellence has been a cornerstone of the Jets’ success.
“He makes saves other goalies just can’t,” said DeMelo, praising Hellebuyck’s skill and confidence. “He’s probably the best goalie of our generation.”
Lowry echoed the sentiment, admiring Hellebuyck’s ability to make challenging saves look effortless. “He’s always analyzing his game, looking for ways to improve. He’s a special player and a huge part of where we are now,” Lowry said.
As the Jets prepare for the Ducks, all eyes will be on Hellebuyck, whose teammates are eager to help him secure this career-defining victory.
