The Winnipeg Jets are determined to bounce back as they face the Dallas Stars in Game 2 tonight at Canada Life Centre. Puck drop is set for 8:30 PM CT, with coverage on Sportsnet and 680 CJOB/Power 97.
Rough Start Cost Jets in Game 1
In their Game 1 defeat, the Jets struggled early. Though they improved in the third period, it wasn’t enough to avoid a 3-2 loss.
Captain Adam Lowry acknowledged the slow start.
“We lacked directness at the beginning,” Lowry said. “That’s when we’re at our best—playing straight north.” The Jets aim to bring intensity and focus from the first shift tonight.
Dallas Thrives on Mistakes
The Stars play a calculated, patient game. They capitalize on turnovers and punish teams in transition.
Winnipeg learned that quickly. Defenceman Dylan DeMelo noted the difference in playing style compared to their previous opponent, St. Louis.
“The Blues just tried to hit us,” DeMelo explained. “Dallas pressures you to steal pucks. It made us rush plays that we didn’t need to.”
Adjusting to Dallas’s style means staying calm under pressure and being smarter with puck decisions.
Spotlight on Mikko Rantanen
Dallas isn’t a one-man team—but Mikko Rantanen is on a historic tear. The Finnish forward has contributed to the last 12 Stars goals. He's chasing NHL history with the chance to notch three consecutive hat tricks.
Lowry stressed the importance of containing him.
“We gave him too much space,” said Lowry. “We need tighter structure and better net-front coverage.”
Stopping Rantanen will be crucial to Winnipeg's chances tonight.
Morrissey Returns to Strengthen Blue Line
There’s good news for Jets fans. Top defenceman Josh Morrissey appears set to return after leaving Game 1 early.
He rejoined Dylan DeMelo on the top pairing during morning skate. Head coach Scott Arniel welcomed the boost.
“He adds offense and calm,” said Arniel. “His skating, mobility, and shot make him a real asset.”
Morrissey’s presence could spark both the transition game and the struggling power play.
Blue Line Adjustments Continue
With Morrissey back, Haydn Fleury moves down to pair with Colin Miller. Luke Schenn becomes the odd man out.
Fleury has impressed in recent outings, including Game 7 of the last round. “He stepped up big for us,” said Arniel. “His skating helps him escape pressure.”
The Jets will need every bit of that depth on defence against Dallas’s fast forwards.
Special Teams Could Decide the Game
Winnipeg’s power play has gone cold. They went 0-for-4 in Game 1 and are now just 2-for-14 at home during the 2025 playoffs.
Meanwhile, the Stars have been flawless on the penalty kill, going 12-for-12 in their last four games.
