The New York Mets made significant coaching announcements on Monday, revealing the appointment of John Gibbons, the former manager of the Toronto Blue Jays, as the bench coach under the Mets' new manager, Carlos Mendoza.

Joining Gibbons in the coaching staff, the Mets welcomed Antoan Richardson as the first base coach, Mike Sarbaugh as the third base coach, and José Rosado as the bullpen coach.

At 61 years old, Gibbons brings a wealth of managerial experience, having previously managed the Toronto Blue Jays during two stints, from 2004 to 2008 and then from 2013 to 2018. Although Gibbons had a brief stint as a player, participating in 18 major league games with the New York Mets in 1984 and 1986, his career largely thrived in the minor leagues from 1991 to 2001, where he served as a manager, coach, and instructor.

Notably, Eric Chavez is set to resume his role as the hitting coach after serving as the bench coach under Buck Showalter in 2023. Additionally, Jeremy Hefner will continue his tenure as the pitching coach for the upcoming fifth season, while Glenn Sherlock returns for his second season as the catching coach.

The coaching roster also includes the return of Danny Barnes as the major league strategy coach and Jeremy Barnes as a hitting coach, ensuring a combination of seasoned veterans and familiar faces within the Mets' coaching lineup for the upcoming season.
