It seems the world still has an appetite for dinosaurs. Jurassic World Rebirth, the latest entry in the iconic franchise, has stormed the global box office, earning a jaw-dropping $318.3 million in its first five days.
Despite a familiar plot and mixed reviews, fans turned up in droves over the Fourth of July weekend, proving that the Jurassic legacy remains strong.
A Roaring Start at Home and Abroad
Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rebirth opened in 4,308 North American theaters last Wednesday. By Sunday, it had earned $147.3 million in the region. Of that, $91.5 million came just from the weekend, covering the Friday holiday through Sunday.
International numbers were equally impressive. The film premiered in 82 global markets, including China. There, it brought in $41.5 million—playing on 65,000 screens, including over 700 IMAX. Overall, the international haul stood at $171 million.

Big Names, Bigger Expectations
Featuring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, Rebirth adds a fresh cast to the beloved dinosaur saga. With a reported production budget of $180 million (excluding marketing), the stakes were high.
The story returns to the world of prehistoric danger, but with a twist. This time, the chase for dinosaur DNA isn’t about creating new creatures. It’s about finding a cure for heart disease. Long-time fans may also recognize the voice behind the script—David Koepp, writer of the original Jurassic Park.
Not a Critical Hit, But Fans Flock In
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film sits at a 51% critics score. Audiences gave it a B CinemaScore. But that didn’t stop ticket sales. According to Universal, Rebirth exceeded expectations at every step. The studio was especially surprised by the film’s cross-generational appeal—from kids to seniors.
Universal’s Jim Orr called the result “tremendous” and praised the film as the kind of high-energy adventure summer audiences crave.

IMAX Snub? No Problem
Interestingly, Rebirth did not play on domestic IMAX screens due to prior commitments to the Brad Pitt-led F1. Still, it flourished on other premium formats like Dolby Cinema, raking in nearly $8 million from just 167 screens in five days.
A Marketing Mammoth
The film’s promotional campaign spanned continents—from London to Seoul. Universal pushed hard across its platforms and partnered with brands like Jeep, 7-Eleven, and even Johansson’s skincare line. The result? Maximum buzz ahead of release.
Box Office Breakdown: Dinosaurs Leave Rivals Behind
No major releases dared compete with Rebirth. Last week’s top title, F1, slipped to second with $26.1 million. It’s now at $109.5 million domestically and nearing $300 million globally.
Here’s how the rest of the domestic top five looked:
- Jurassic World Rebirth – $91.5 million
- F1: The Movie – $26.1 million
- How to Train Your Dragon – $11 million
- Elio – $5.7 million
- 28 Years Later – $4.6 million
Also notable: A re-release of This is Spinal Tap made it back into the top 10 after 41 years.
The Summer Showdown Has Just Begun
Industry analysts expect a highly competitive summer. With upcoming releases like Superman, the box office heat is just getting started.
“For moviegoers, it’s so much fun,” says Comscore’s Paul Dergarabedian. “This is shaping up to be one of the most exciting seasons in years.”
