The Princess of Wales recycled her purple pleated Emilia Wickstead dress and matching hat
The Princess of Wales made a rare and radiant appearance at the 80th Anniversary of VE Day. Alongside senior royals, Kate joined King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Anne, and Duchess Sophie for the commemorative event held on May 8.
Just days after celebrating her wedding anniversary, Kate Middleton stepped out in style. This marked one of her few public appearances since completing preventative chemotherapy in 2024.
A Royal Look to Remember
Kate turned heads in a deep purple Emilia Wickstead coat dress. The belted waist and pleated skirt added classic elegance. She paired the look with a matching Sean Barrett bow hat and tan Ralph Lauren heels. This wasn’t the first time she wore the outfit—she previously donned it in 2022 while meeting South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Her ensemble reflected grace and purpose, resonating with the historical significance of the day.

Jewels with a Deeper Meaning
Kate accessorised with ruby drop earrings and a striking gold brooch. Experts believe the brooch is from the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm collection. It features Air Force wings and symbolizes service and remembrance.
The ruby earrings were a highlight. Laura Taylor from Lorel Diamonds explained the significance behind her choice. "Rubies represent love, strength, and protection," she shared. "Wearing them on a day of national remembrance feels deeply intentional."
Taylor added that the earrings appeared new and more refined compared to previous designs. They likely feature a single halo of diamonds, a double diamond drop above the ruby, and another diamond on the earlobe.
A Sentimental Touch from the Royal Collection
Jewellery experts believe that Kate’s accessory choices were more than just fashion. Tobias Kormind, co-founder of 77 Diamonds, noted that royals often turn to emotionally rich pieces on such occasions.
"Expect to see meaningful jewels throughout the VE Day events," Kormind said. “They reflect both personal sentiment and historical legacy.”
He also referenced Queen Elizabeth II’s aquamarine and diamond brooches, gifted by her father in 1944. These were worn during her televised tribute for VE Day’s 75th anniversary in 2020.
Hair Goals: The Iconic Royal Wave
Kate’s hair looked flawless, continuing to capture headlines worldwide. Her voluminous 'bronde' locks appeared shinier and longer than ever. She previously debuted the summer-ready style at Aros Hall in Mull on April 29—coincidentally, her 14th wedding anniversary.
Celebrity stylist Tom Pike called it an upgrade to the “Hollywood wave.” He praised her modern twist on the classic royal hairstyle.
“To get this look, use a smoothing cream or blow-dry spray,” Pike advised. “Then curl thicker hair sections using a large barrel wand and gently brush them out. Kate parts her hair at the back and pushes it forward, creating a deep, regal wave. It’s beautifully done.”
A Graceful Comeback with Purpose
Kate’s presence at the VE Day event was more than just a royal duty—it was a tribute wrapped in elegance. Her thoughtful outfit, symbolic jewellery, and renewed public appearance sent a strong message of strength, remembrance, and hope.
With each detail, the Princess of Wales paid homage not only to history but to her own journey of resilience.
