Kevin Jonas may have lived the pop-star dream, but behind the fame was a wake-up call that almost cost him everything.
In a recent episode of the School of Greatness podcast, the eldest Jonas Brother opened up about the time he nearly lost it all—financially. And no, this wasn’t just a minor blip. Kevin was down to his last 10% of savings and seriously struggling after the Jonas Brothers called it quits in 2013.
“I Didn’t Know What Money Really Was”
Kevin got real about the early days of stardom, admitting that while he had seen success, he wasn’t prepared for what came after.
“I didn’t know what money really was,” he said. “And then I lost almost all of it.”
At the time, he was investing in property and juggling several projects. On paper, it looked smart. In practice? Not so much. Kevin hinted at failed partnerships being part of the problem.
“It wasn’t the right partnership, if you know what I’m saying,” he added, keeping it diplomatic—but clearly still feeling the sting.
A Financial Freefall… and a Lifeline
He didn’t dive into numbers, but the picture he painted was clear: the money was nearly gone. The safety net had frayed.
“I was building at the time,” he shared, “but I was down to my last ten percent of funds.”
That kind of financial low can shake anyone—even someone with chart-topping hits and screaming fans. But instead of letting it crush him, Kevin used the experience to pivot.
“Thankfully, we had a second shot with the band getting back together,” he said.
The Comeback That Changed Everything
When the Jonas Brothers reunited in 2019, it wasn’t just a nostalgia act—it was a full-on revival. New music, sold-out tours, and a second wave of stardom helped Kevin bounce back in a big way.
“It actually was kind of fortuitous,” he reflected. “I learned this lesson—never wanted to learn it, but I did.”
This time around, Kevin’s taking nothing for granted. He’s reevaluated his outlook, not just on finances, but on life as a whole. He’s wiser, more grounded, and a whole lot more careful about who he partners with.
Celebrating 20 Years of the Jonas Brothers
Now, with the financial crisis in the rearview, Kevin and his brothers are gearing up for a major milestone: their 20th anniversary as a band. The “Jonas20: Living the Dream” tour kicks off this August in New Jersey, bringing things full circle for the trio.
It’s a celebration of everything they’ve built—twice.
Fame, Failure, and the Power of a Second Chance
Kevin’s story is more than a behind-the-scenes confession—it’s a powerful reminder that success can be fragile. One wrong turn, one bad investment, and even the most secure star can stumble.
But it’s also proof that second chances are real. And when they come, they’re worth everything.
As Kevin put it best, “We got a bite at the apple again.” And this time, he’s not letting go.
