Kevin Spacey has fired back at Guy Pearce after the latter accused him of aggressive behavior on the set of L.A. Confidential. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Pearce claimed that Spacey “targeted” him during the 1997 neo-noir film. He described Spacey as "quite an aggressive man" but clarified that his experience was nowhere near as severe as other alleged victims of sexual predators.
Spacey, however, did not take the comments lightly. He responded with a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), urging Pearce to “grow up” and questioning his decision to bring up the issue in the media rather than addressing it privately.
Spacey's Response: "We Could've Talked"
In his video, Spacey expressed frustration over Pearce's decision to discuss the matter publicly. “We worked together a long time ago. If I did something that upset you, you could’ve reached out to me. Instead, you chose to speak to the press,” he said.
Spacey also brought up an alleged visit Pearce made to see him a year after filming L.A. Confidential. “Did you tell the press that you flew to Savannah, Georgia, while I was shooting Midnight in the Valley of Good and Evil just to spend time with me? Or does that not fit into the victim narrative you have going?” he questioned.
A Call for a Live Discussion
Spacey continued his rebuttal by implying that Pearce’s timing was questionable. “Here you are now, 28 years later, after I’ve been through hell and back, trying to stop the bad guy? What took you so long?” he said.
He then invited Pearce to have a direct conversation. “If you want to talk, I’m happy to do so anytime, anyplace. We can even do it live on X if you’d like. I have nothing to hide,” Spacey stated. He ended the video with a strong message: “Guy, you are not a victim.”
Spacey's Hollywood Struggles
Since 2017, Spacey has faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, leading to a halt in his Hollywood career. While several legal cases were brought against him, many have either been dismissed or resulted in acquittals. In 2022, a jury in New York ruled that he did not molest actor Anthony Rapp in the 1980s. The following year, a U.K. court found him not guilty of nine sexual assault charges.
Despite these legal victories, Spacey has remained largely absent from the entertainment industry.
Support from Hollywood Figures
Over the years, some Hollywood actors have voiced support for Spacey. Brian Cox recently defended him, criticizing cancel culture. “We’ve got to an age now where people just cancel others without question. How dare you cancel anybody?” Cox said in an interview.
Sharon Stone has also been vocal about her admiration for Spacey. Speaking to The Telegraph, she stated, “I can’t wait to see Kevin back at work. He is a genius. He is so elegant and fun, generous to a fault, and knows more about our craft than most of us ever will.”
Liam Neeson and others have also expressed similar sentiments, calling for Spacey's return to the industry.
While Spacey continues to fight for his career, this latest controversy with Pearce adds another layer to his ongoing battle for redemption.
