Khaby Lame, the world’s most followed TikTok creator, has left the United States after immigration officials briefly detained him in Las Vegas. The 25-year-old social media star reportedly overstayed his visa.

Authorities stopped him on Friday at Harry Reid International Airport. A spokesperson from immigration services confirmed the incident. Lame did not face deportation but chose to leave the country on his own.

What led to the detainment

Lame entered the U.S. on April 30. Officials say he stayed past the date allowed by his visa. Though he was held, authorities granted him "voluntary departure." This choice helps him avoid a deportation stamp on his record.

A deportation order can block someone from returning to the U.S. for years. By leaving willingly, Lame may still be allowed back if he applies for a new visa in the future.

No public statement from Lame

As of now, Khaby Lame hasn’t spoken about the situation. Reporters sent questions to his contact email, but there was no reply.

Fame without words

Lame became a global sensation during the COVID-19 pandemic. His wordless TikTok reactions to overly complicated "life hacks" won millions of fans. His unique style and facial expressions made him an internet star.

He now has over 162 million TikTok followers, making him the platform’s biggest personality.

His life before TikTok fame

Born in Senegal, Lame moved to Italy as a baby with his parents. He grew up in a working-class family and later earned Italian citizenship. Despite his quiet style online, he made a lot of noise in the world of fashion and charity.

Big deals and global spotlight

Lame’s popularity has opened doors far beyond TikTok. In 2022, he landed a major contract with fashion brand Hugo Boss. In January 2025, he became a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.

He recently made an appearance at the Met Gala in New York. That event happened just days before his detainment.

Bigger picture: crackdown on immigration

Lame’s exit from the U.S. comes as the country tightens immigration rules. Recent enforcement actions, including raids in major cities, have drawn both attention and criticism.

Protests broke out in Los Angeles last week after immigration officers arrested several people. Many fear that even high-profile visitors could be affected by the stricter approach.

What’s next for Khaby Lame

For now, Lame has returned overseas. Fans around the world await word on what’s next for the popular creator. Whether he will be allowed to return to the U.S. remains unclear.

But one thing is certain—his silence speaks louder than words, both online and off.
