A dramatic robbery that left Kim Kardashian fearing for her life is finally heading to court. The incident took place in Paris on the night of October 2, 2016, during Paris Fashion Week. Over eight years later, 10 individuals are set to stand trial for their involvement in the kidnapping, robbery, and abduction of Kardashian and the concierge at the hotel where she was staying.

Kim Kardashian to Testify in Court

Kardashian will testify in person during the trial, which begins Monday and is expected to continue through May 23. Her lawyers emphasized her commitment to the French justice system and noted that she plans to reserve her testimony for the court and jury. "She has great respect and admiration for the French justice system," her lawyers said. Kardashian has not elaborated on her statements but is focused on seeing the trial proceed smoothly.

The Fearful Night

The terrifying robbery has been a subject of discussion for Kardashian in interviews and on her reality TV show. In a tearful moment on David Letterman’s Netflix show in 2020, she recalled the horror of the situation. "I thought, ‘This is the time I’m going to get raped. Are we gonna die?’" Kardashian said, expressing the fear she felt when the robbers threatened her with a gun.

The Granddad Robbers

The press has nicknamed the suspects "The Granddad Robbers" due to the advanced age of the main culprits. These criminals have long histories of bank robbery and were well-known to authorities. Out of the 12 original suspects, two have died, and another is too ill to stand trial. Five of the 10 remaining defendants were present at the scene of the crime.

A Desperate Escape

Kardashian described being dragged to a bathroom and tied up, while the robbers ransacked her room. After the attack, she managed to free herself and called her sister Kourtney to report the crime. While the robbers fled, some on foot and others on bicycles, Kardashian was left shaken but unharmed. She later filed a complaint and expressed her desire to leave France to reunite with her children.

The Stolen Jewelry

The robbers made off with more than $6 million worth of jewelry, including a high-value ring. However, only one piece, a diamond cross on platinum, was recovered after being lost during the suspects' escape.

Partial Confessions and Evidence

Two of the accused have partially confessed to the crime, with their DNA found at the scene. The alleged mastermind, 68-year-old Aomar Aït Khedache, is believed to have entered Kardashian’s apartment and left on a bicycle. He met his son nearby before fleeing the area. Aït Khedache’s DNA was also found on the tape used to gag Kardashian.

Yunice Abbas, 71, another key figure in the crime, acted as a lookout. He has admitted to his role but denies threatening Kardashian. Abbas spent 21 months in prison before his release, and in 2021, he co-authored a book about the crime, titled I Sequestered Kim Kardashian.

Other Defendants and the Resale of Stolen Goods

Didier Dubreucq, 69, is also accused of entering the flat but denies involvement, despite CCTV footage and phone records linking him to the crime. Other suspects are said to have provided information about Kardashian’s whereabouts or helped with the resale of the stolen jewelry in Antwerp, Belgium.

As the trial unfolds, many will be closely watching to see how justice is served for the high-profile robbery that stunned the world.
