A small tornado touched down near Lucan, Ontario, on Monday afternoon. The Northern Tornadoes Project confirmed the twister after reviewing storm data and eyewitness footage. The sudden event happened just after 3:50 p.m.

Weather Alert Issued Then Cancelled
Meteorologists had been tracking a dangerous thunderstorm in the region. Officials issued a tornado warning for Stratford, Mitchell, southern Perth County, and London. The alert lasted under 10 minutes before conditions calmed.

Storm Leaves Light Damage
Though brief, the storm left a mark. Trees snapped, and crops were damaged in parts of the Lucan area. No injuries have been reported.

Brenda Hawkins, a local resident, witnessed the tornado.
“I saw the funnel and I heard it,” she said. “All the debris, all the old tins, everything was flying in the air.”

Experts Assess the Scene
Dr. David Sills, director of the Northern Tornadoes Project, quickly responded. He reviewed videos and visited the site near Airport Drive and Saintsbury Line. Based on early evidence, he gave the twister an EF0 rating. That means it had the weakest classification on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

An EF0 tornado usually causes minimal damage. Still, experts take every storm seriously to improve forecasting and safety.

Full Survey Planned
The team will return Tuesday for a full survey. This includes checking the tornado’s full path using ground and drone technology. They aim to confirm the size, strength, and any damage that may not be visible from the road.

What Residents Should Know
Tornadoes can form quickly during severe storms. Experts encourage everyone to stay alert during weather watches. Having a plan and staying informed can help reduce risks.
