Jane Kaczmarek, Frankie Muniz, Erik Per Sullivan, and Justin Berfield in 'Malcolm in the Middle' (Rex)
The beloved sitcom "Malcolm in the Middle" is making a comeback on Disney+, reuniting much of the original cast while introducing fresh faces. However, fans will notice a significant change in the lineup.
Who's Returning?
Frankie Muniz reprises his role as Malcolm, with Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek returning as his quirky and chaotic parents, Hal and Lois. Joining them are Christopher Masterson as Francis and Justin Berfield as Reese, keeping the family dynamic fans loved.
Additionally, Kiana Madeira has been cast as Tristan, Malcolm’s girlfriend, adding a new layer to his story.
A New Face for Dewey
One major shake-up is the recasting of Dewey, originally played by Erik Per Sullivan. Instead, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark (“Fargo,” “The Expanse”) will step into the role. Sullivan, who stepped away from acting years ago, has been absent from past cast reunions, making his return unlikely.
Meet the New Characters
The revival isn’t just about bringing back old favorites. Anthony Timpano, Vaughan Murrae, and Keeley Karsten will join the cast in key roles:
- Timpano plays Jamie, Malcolm’s younger brother, introduced in Season 4 of the original series.
- Murrae portrays Kelly, the youngest of Hal and Lois' six kids. Described as self-sufficient and intelligent, Kelly was hinted at in the show's finale.
Karsten takes on the role of Leah, Malcolm’s daughter, who shares his intelligence, impulsiveness, and sarcasm but is more sensitive and emotional.
