In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the husband of a respected New York doctor who tragically passed away shortly after dining at a Disney Springs restaurant last year has filed a lawsuit against Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, alleging negligence in her death.

The lawsuit, spanning 19 pages and filed in Orange County, Florida, by Jeffrey Piccolo, seeks more than $50,000 US in the wrongful death of Kanokporn Tangsuan, a doctor at New York University Langone Hospital. Tangsuan, known for her dedication and expertise, suffered from severe allergies to nuts and dairy products.

The evening in question, October 5, 2023, began like any other outing for the couple. They dined at Raglan Road Irish Pub, accompanied by Piccolo's mother. Tangsuan, mindful of her allergies, diligently informed the waiter of her dietary restrictions, emphasizing the need for allergen-free food.

Despite repeated inquiries and assurances from the waiter and chef that the food would be allergen-free, tragedy struck. Tangsuan experienced difficulty breathing and collapsed while shopping at Planet Hollywood, having self-administered an epi-pen to combat the allergic reaction. Efforts to reach her went unanswered, leading to a devastating outcome: the loss of a beloved wife, daughter, and colleague.

The medical examiner's investigation revealed Tangsuan's cause of death as anaphylaxis due to elevated levels of dairy and nuts in her system. The lawsuit holds Raglan Road responsible, alleging a failure to adequately train staff in ensuring allergen-free food preparation.

The gravity of the situation is underscored by the response from Food Allergy Canada, emphasizing the critical need for accurate ingredient information and effective allergen management in food service settings.

Disney, often lauded for its commitment to allergy safety, faces scrutiny in this instance as the restaurant in question falls outside its direct ownership. While Disney Springs boasts a reputation for safety and entertainment, the tragic incident prompts a sobering reminder of the complexities surrounding food allergies.

Tangsuan's meticulous approach to dining out, coupled with Raglan Road's purported accommodations, serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of allergic reactions. As the lawsuit unfolds, questions linger regarding the adequacy of training and protocols in ensuring diner safety.

In the wake of this devastating loss, advocates call for heightened awareness and improved training to prevent similar tragedies. The legacy of Dr. Tangsuan serves as a beacon, illuminating the need for greater diligence and care in accommodating food allergies.
