A manhunt is currently in progress after a violent attack left three people dead and four others critically injured at a festival in Solingen, a city in western Germany. The attack occurred on Friday evening at the Fronhof square, where people had gathered for the “Festival of Diversity,” which celebrates the 650th anniversary of Solingen’s founding.
Around 9:40 p.m., witnesses reported that an individual armed with a knife began attacking random people. The attacker struck close to the stage where a musical performance was taking place, creating chaos among the festival-goers. Emergency services were swiftly alerted, and a large police response followed.

The assailant, described as a lone male, remains at large, prompting a major manhunt involving special police forces. Authorities are using all available resources to track down the suspect. The motive behind the attack is still unknown, and police have not confirmed whether it was an act of terrorism.

Herbert Reul, the interior minister for North Rhine-Westphalia, expressed his shock and sadness over the incident. He stated, “What happened is a terrible incident. And even if you keep in mind what a dangerous situation we live in, something like this is always a shock.” Reul also mentioned that the motive remains unclear and cautioned against jumping to conclusions about the nature of the attack.

The festival, which was supposed to include a variety of music, food, and family activities, was marred by violence. The Bergisch Symphony Orchestra was set to perform on the main stage as part of the celebrations.

The city's mayor, Tim Kurzbach, expressed his grief on social media, highlighting the profound sadness the community is feeling. He wrote, “We all wanted to celebrate our city’s anniversary together and now we have to mourn the dead and injured.” Kurzbach extended his thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families and thanked the emergency responders for their efforts.

The scene was heavily attended by emergency personnel, including ambulances and a police helicopter. Authorities are still piecing together details about the incident and working tirelessly to provide answers and support to the affected community.
