Martin Scorsese, the famous Hollywood director, will produce a new documentary featuring the final on-camera interview of the late Pope Francis. The film, called Aldeas – A New Story, will also be supported by Aldeas Scholas Films. This film production arm is linked to Pope Francis’ non-profit organization, Scholas Occurrentes, which he founded in 2013. The organization focuses on helping young people around the world.

A Film with a Purpose

The documentary will highlight a cinema program called Aldeas, which Pope Francis was passionate about. It will show how communities from all over the world came together to make short films. These films aim to celebrate their unique cultures and values. The documentary will also share behind-the-scenes stories of how the films were created and feature previously unseen conversations between Pope Francis and Martin Scorsese.

The Power of Storytelling

Pope Francis spoke about the Aldeas program before his passing at the age of 88. He called it “an extremely poetic and very constructive project” because it touches on the core of human life, including human relationships and struggles. He believed it was important to explore the essence of life’s journey through stories.

Martin Scorsese agreed, saying, “Now, more than ever, we need to talk to each other, listen to one another cross-culturally.” He believes that sharing personal stories is a powerful way to connect with each other. Scorsese also emphasized that Pope Francis wanted the world to respect each other’s cultural identity while exchanging ideas. He said cinema was the perfect tool for achieving this goal.

A Global Reach

The Aldeas project will involve countries like Indonesia, The Gambia, and Italy. People from these nations will create short films that reflect their histories and traditions. These films will be shown in new cinemas built in local communities, which will serve as places for cultural expression and education.

The film production team is working to make these ideas a reality. Aldeas Scholas Films was created with the belief that “it takes a whole village to educate a child.” It aims to help Pope Francis’ vision come true by reaching out to people in need and uniting communities in a time of division. A Final Tribute

The documentary will also serve as a tribute to Pope Francis’ commitment to building unity and peace. Tens of thousands of people gathered for his funeral earlier this month at the Vatican. As his legacy lives on, the Aldeas documentary will keep his vision alive, highlighting the importance of creativity, community, and connection.
