McDonald’s will bring back its popular “Boo Buckets” starting Tuesday, October 21. McDonald’s
Halloween fans can rejoice — McDonald’s has officially brought back its famous “Boo Buckets”, a seasonal favourite first introduced in 1986. The colourful pails, designed to replace the traditional Happy Meal box, are now available at participating McDonald’s locations across Canada, but only while supplies last.
The “Boo Buckets” have returned many times over the years, each comeback bringing excitement and nostalgia for families who remember the fun of collecting them.
Five Fun Characters to Collect
This year’s collection includes three returning characters — Ghost, Pumpkin, and Goblin — and two new ones, Cat and Zombie. Each bucket comes in bright Halloween colours such as white, orange, green, black, and red.
McDonald’s described the return in a playful statement:
“Halloween buckets are popping up everywhere like ghosts in the night – and hey, imitation is the most BOO-tiful form of flattery. But let’s be real: there’s only one OG Halloween bucket, and it comes with a Happy Meal.”
The release officially began on October 21, giving fans plenty of time to grab one before Halloween.
What’s Inside the ‘Boo Bucket’
Each “Boo Bucket” includes all the usual Happy Meal treats, complete with stickers and decorations to make it look extra “fa-boo-lous.” Kids and collectors can use the pail for more than just mealtime — it’s also perfect for trick-or-treating, turning dinner into a fun part of the Halloween celebration.
Each of the five characters features three different facial expressions, making them fun to collect. Families can try to complete the full set before they disappear for another year.
A Nostalgic Piece of Halloween History
For many people, “Boo Buckets” bring back memories of their own childhood Halloweens — dressing up, going door to door, and filling these very same pails with candy. The buckets have become a nostalgic part of McDonald’s history, reminding customers of simple, fun traditions that continue through generations.
Halloween itself traces back to ancient Celtic customs. The celebration originated from Samhain, a harvest festival marking the end of summer. People would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off spirits. Over time, the tradition evolved into All Hallows’ Eve, and later, the modern-day Halloween we know — a day filled with costumes, candy, and playful scares.
The Halloween Spirit Returns to McDonald’s
The comeback of “Boo Buckets” blends that festive energy with a dash of McDonald’s nostalgia. Families can enjoy a meal together, then reuse the pails for trick-or-treating, candy storage, or even as fun decorations.
With limited quantities available, fans are hurrying to grab their favourite bucket before they sell out. Whether you’re a collector or just a fan of Halloween fun, this year’s “Boo Buckets” offer a cheerful way to celebrate the spooky season.
