Hockey fans across Canada will soon find a new reason to visit their local McDonald’s. In partnership with the National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA), several of the league’s top players have teamed up with McDonald’s Canada to launch the NHL® Star Sticks Meal.

The promotion begins March 3 and will run for a limited time at participating restaurants across the country. Each meal comes with a collectible mini hockey stick inspired by some of the NHL’s biggest names.

A Meal Designed for Hockey Fans

The NHL Star Sticks Meal includes a choice of entrée, medium World Famous Fries made from 100 per cent Canadian potatoes, and a medium fountain drink. Customers can choose from the limited-time Hockey Hero Burger®, 10-piece Chicken McNuggets®, Big Mac®, McVeggie™, or Spicy McVeggie™.

With every meal, guests receive one of seven collectible NHL Star Sticks. The featured players include Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews, Macklin Celebrini, Quinn Hughes, Cale Makar, Samuel Montembeault, and Sam Reinhart.

Connor McDavid shared his excitement about the collaboration. "It's exciting to team up with McDonald's again, and this time around we're giving fans a mini hockey experience," he said.

Auston Matthews added, "The NHL Star Sticks are such a cool way for fans to collect a little piece of the game."

The Return of the Hockey Hero Burger

Alongside the collectible sticks, McDonald’s has brought back a fan favourite. The Hockey Hero Burger returns with three 100 per cent Canadian beef patties, shredded lettuce, hickory-smoked bacon, processed cheese, and mayo-style sauce served on a toasted homestyle bun.

The company says the burger earned its name because of its bold flavour and generous build. Its return forms a key part of the limited-time offering.

A Nod to the Past

Long-time customers may remember that McDonald’s Canada introduced mini hockey sticks nearly two decades ago. The new NHL Star Sticks campaign builds on that earlier promotion, bringing the idea to a new generation of fans.

Francesca Cardarelli, Chief Marketing Officer of McDonald’s Canada, highlighted the connection between the brand and hockey culture. "The NHL Star Sticks Meal is all about giving fans a chance to own a piece of the game they love – from a lineup of the NHL's biggest stars to a burger that's as iconic as the sport itself," she said. "It's a true celebration of hockey culture and as the Official Hamburger of the NHL and NHLPA in Canada, we're excited to bring this to our fans."

Limited-Time Availability

The NHL Star Sticks Meal becomes available nationwide on March 3 while supplies last. Customers can visit participating restaurants, place orders through the McDonald’s app, or use McDelivery®.

With hockey season in full swing, the new promotion aims to combine two Canadian favourites: the game and a classic fast-food meal. Fans who want to add a collectible to their shelf will need to act quickly before the sticks disappear.
