The much-anticipated season for McDonald's Shamrock Shake is almost here! This mint-flavored, green-tinted milkshake, made with vanilla soft-serve ice cream, mint syrup, and whipped topping, will be returning to McDonald's menus soon. While the official release date hasn't been announced yet, we can look at previous years' dates to get an idea of when it might return.
In 2024, McDonald's debuted the Shamrock Shake and the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry on February 5, which was earlier than in past years. For example, in 2023, the shake was released on February 20, and in 2022, it came out on February 21. In 2021, it was available starting on February 15.
The Shamrock Shake first appeared in 1970 and has since become a fan favorite, making an appearance around St. Patrick’s Day each year. In 2020, McDonald's also introduced the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry, which quickly became popular alongside the Shamrock Shake. This dessert is a blend of vanilla soft-serve ice cream, mint syrup, and Oreo cookie pieces.
Although McDonald's has not yet confirmed whether the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry will return this year, it’s likely that it will. Since its launch in 2020, the McFlurry has been a staple alongside the Shamrock Shake during the seasonal period.
For those watching their calorie intake, a medium Shamrock Shake contains about 540 calories, which is less than McDonald's medium vanilla shake (570 calories) and medium chocolate shake (650 calories). Meanwhile, a regular Oreo Shamrock McFlurry has 460 calories.
McDonald’s hasn’t provided the exact details about this year’s offerings, but based on the shake's consistent return every year, fans can expect the minty treat to make its appearance soon, along with the popular Oreo Shamrock McFlurry.
