McDonald's confirms the return of the Snack Wrap. Food & Wine
McDonald's is bringing back the beloved Snack Wrap, but fans will have to wait a little longer. The fast-food giant’s CEO, Christopher Kempczinski, confirmed the news earlier this week during a discussion about the company’s plans and financial performance.
Snack Wrap’s Return Date Still Unknown
While the exact release date is not confirmed, Kempczinski said the Snack Wrap would return in 2025. McDonald's first teased the comeback last year on X (formerly Twitter) with a cryptic post: "snack wraps xx.xx.2025."
Joe Erlinger, president of McDonald’s U.S. operations, also hinted at the return in December. He stated on a morning TV show, "It has a cult following. I get so many emails about this product."
What Is a McDonald's Snack Wrap?
The Snack Wrap was first introduced in 2006 and quickly became a fan favorite. It featured a piece of chicken breast (grilled or crispy), lettuce, shredded cheese, and a sauce, all wrapped in a soft flour tortilla. Over the years, McDonald's offered different variations, but the item was discontinued in 2016. Some locations continued serving it until 2020, when it was fully removed from the menu due to operational challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.
More Chicken Options Coming to McDonald's
Along with the return of the Snack Wrap, McDonald's is expanding its chicken menu. Kempczinski revealed that a new chicken strip option is on the way, and the Chicken Big Mac will make a limited-time comeback.
$5 Meal Deal Driving Sales
McDonald's introduced the $5 Meal Deal, which has been performing well. According to Kempczinski, customers spending on the meal typically add other items, pushing their total orders to over $10. "It’s doing exactly what we hoped for," he said.
Recent Challenges and Successes
Despite the excitement around new menu items, McDonald's faced a tough fourth quarter in 2024. Sales in the U.S. dropped by 1.4%, partly due to an E. coli outbreak linked to onions on quarter pounders. This incident resulted in at least one reported death. However, global sales grew by 0.4%, and McDonald's stock has already risen nearly 7% this year.
New Limited-Time Offerings
McDonald's continues to introduce new limited-time items. The Angel Reese Special, inspired by the basketball player, includes a BBQ Bacon Quarter Pounder with Cheese, fries, and a drink. Another exciting addition is the Pokémon Happy Meal, which features a collectible booster pack with four Pokémon cards, a sticker sheet, and a poster.
Shamrock Shakes Are Back
McDonald’s famous Shamrock Shake has also returned, along with the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry. A portion of the sales from each Shamrock Shake will go to Ronald McDonald House Charities until March 23.
