Sonny the crowned Gerber Baby of 2024

In a heartwarming announcement on Tuesday, Gerber revealed that 1-year-old Akil “Sonny” McLeod from Arizona has won their prestigious baby photo contest. Sonny, whose nickname reflects his sunny personality, was chosen from tens of thousands of adorable submissions of babies up to 2 years old. The panel of judges, which included parents of previous winners for the first time, fell in love with Sonny’s smiling face captured against a backdrop of a sunshine mobile.

Angela Madlangbayan, Gerber's vice president of marketing, shared, “Sonny's submission instantly captured the hearts of the selection panel. We loved hearing how his family cherishes everyday moments with him and finds light even in difficult times.”

As the face of Gerber for 2024, Sonny will grace the brand’s social media platforms and advertising campaigns throughout the year. His family will receive a $25,000 cash prize, a year's supply of Gerber products, a new wardrobe, and various other prizes. Sonny’s mother, Dominque McLeod, expressed their disbelief and joy, saying, “When we had Sonny, everyone said he looked like a Gerber Baby, which inspired us to enter the contest. We are still in shock but incredibly grateful for this amazing experience.”

Sonny and his family were flown to New York for the winner announcement, where they attended press events and had the opportunity to reunite with extended family members. The McLeod family hopes that Sonny’s infectious smile and sunny disposition will bring happiness to everyone who sees him.

Sonny’s father, Akil McLeod, reflected on their journey, saying, “Sonny has a smile that lights up every room. Sharing love and positivity is important to us as a family, and Sonny embodies that every day. If his joy brightens even one person's day, it's a celebration for us.”
