A charming Muscovy duck named Daisy has captured the hearts of many since her arrival at a Manitoba animal rescue. Earlier this month, she was discovered wandering around a home in the Clandeboye area, and her endearing antics quickly won over the residents.
Daisy's unusual behaviour started with her appearing once a day from the tall grass, following the homeowners like a friendly dog. Candice Cronin, the director and founder of Wild Willow Ranch and Rescue, shared, “She'd come out, appear out of the long grass once a day, follow them around like a dog.” After feeding her, Daisy would retreat back into the grass, creating a routine that continued for over a week.

The homeowners soon realized that Daisy was not a wild duck and began to worry about her safety as the temperatures dropped and potential predators lurked nearby. Concerned for her well-being, they reached out to their neighbours to find out if she belonged to anyone. When they found no leads, they contacted Wild Willow Ranch and Rescue, a non-profit sanctuary located north of Beausejour.

Upon her arrival at the rescue, it became clear that Daisy was not in the best shape. “She's not able to fly. All of her flight feathers are all damaged, so we're not quite sure what happened there, but the good news is that there's new feathers growing,” Cronin explained. After going through a quarantine period to ensure her health, Daisy began to adjust to her new environment. She has quickly made friends with other animals at the rescue, including mini ducks, mini horses, dogs, and cats.

Despite being the first duck rescued by Wild Willow Ranch, Daisy has gained immense popularity, both among the animals and on social media. “I didn't expect that. I guess it's just such an odd story. But she's on social media, and people are loving her up, so it's great,” Cronin said, expressing delight at the unexpected attention Daisy has received.

As Daisy continues to settle in and recover, Wild Willow Ranch is reminding the public that they rely on donations to support their ongoing work. To help raise funds, the rescue is running a 50/50 draw, which will contribute to the care of Daisy and other animals in need.

Daisy’s journey from wandering alone to finding a loving sanctuary is a heartwarming tale that showcases the bond between animals and humans. Her story has not only brought joy to the people of Manitoba but has also highlighted the important work being done by animal rescues like Wild Willow Ranch. With each passing day, Daisy's charming personality and growing friendships continue to warm the hearts of those around her.
