Memphis Grizzlies' guard Ja Morant's season comes to an early end due to a torn labrum, as announced by the team on Monday via X, previously known as Twitter.

The official statement from the Grizzlies clarified that during a practice session on Saturday, Morant experienced a subluxation in his right shoulder. Following persistent discomfort and instability, an MRI revealed an underlying labral tear, leading to the decision for Morant to undergo season-ending surgery. The team anticipates his complete recovery in time for the 2024-25 season.

This unfortunate news arrives when the Grizzlies were gaining momentum after a challenging start. Morant's presence in nine games significantly influenced the team's 6-3 record, showcasing impressive averages of 25.1 points, 8.1 assists, and 5.6 rebounds.

Morant's absence was felt in Sunday's game against the Phoenix Suns due to a reported sore right shoulder. The team had already expected his non-participation in Tuesday's match against the Dallas Mavericks before confirming the season-ending setback.

Following the announcement, Morant conveyed his emotions with a blue heart emoji on X.

The setback is a blow for the Grizzlies, who, despite Morant's suspension at the start of the 2023-24 season, had high hopes. Currently sitting at 13th place in the Western Conference with a 13-23 record, the team faces the dilemma of striving for a playoff spot versus potentially securing a high draft pick.

While this loss is a significant setback, the team can focus on Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr.'s development this season. The absence of Morant could pave the way for a pseudo-rebuilding phase, allowing the team to return stronger next season.

Despite the setback, the future remains promising for the Grizzlies. Morant, aged 24, has showcased impressive career stats, averaging 22.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game, suggesting a bright future for both him and the team.
