The 2026 Winter Olympic Games officially began with a dazzling opening ceremony at San Siro Olympic Stadium in Milan. The event marked the start of a Games spread across northern Italy, with celebrations also taking place in Cortina d’Ampezzo and nearby alpine regions.
For the first time in Olympic history, two Olympic flames now burn at the same time. One cauldron stands in Milan, while the other glows in Cortina d’Ampezzo, symbolizing the shared hosting duties.
Canada Takes the Stage
Canada made a strong and proud appearance during the parade of nations. Olympic champions Mikaël Kingsbury and Marielle Thompson carried the flag as Team Canada’s flag bearers. The team wore matching maroon and red winter outfits that featured the maple leaf, drawing cheers from the crowd.
