The widespread rumors of the legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra Ji’s death were dismissed by his daughter, Esha Deol, on Tuesday. She confirmed that the actor is stable and recovering. The 89-year-old star of Sholay fame is currently under observation at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.
Amid a wave of false reports circulating on social media, Esha urged people and the media to refrain from spreading misinformation.
“The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news,” she wrote on Instagram. “My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy. Thank you for the prayers for papa's speedy recovery.”
Family Denies False Reports
Esha’s clarification came shortly after several news outlets and online posts falsely claimed Dharmendra had passed away. Her statement quickly reassured fans who had been expressing concern about the actor’s health.
Soon after her post, Dharmendra’s wife, actor-politician Hema Malini, also condemned the rumors. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she appealed for privacy and urged people to stop circulating unverified information.
“I thank everyone for their concern about Dharam ji, who is in hospital for observation,” she wrote. “He is being continuously monitored, and we are all with him. Please pray for his speedy recovery.”
The veteran actress’s message came hours after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh posted condolences on X, mistakenly announcing Dharmendra’s demise. The tweet was later deleted after family members clarified the actor was alive and recovering.
Under Observation, Not on Ventilator
Amid growing speculation, a spokesperson for Dharmendra’s son, actor and BJP MP Sunny Deol, also released an official statement to put the rumors to rest.
“Mr. Dharmendra is stable and under observation,” the representative said. “Further updates will be shared as available. Kindly avoid spreading false rumors about his health. Please respect the family’s privacy and pray for his recovery.”
The statement also dismissed reports suggesting that the legendary actor had been placed on a ventilator, calling them “completely untrue.”
Family by His Side
Hema Malini, Sunny Deol, and Esha Deol are currently by Dharmendra’s side at the Breach Candy Hospital, where he has been receiving medical attention for several days. Sources indicate that the actor was admitted for observation following age-related health concerns but is responding well to treatment.
Family friends and colleagues from the film industry have been visiting the hospital since the news broke. Superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan were seen visiting the veteran actor’s family to extend their support, while actor Govinda also arrived earlier in the day to check on his health.
An Outpouring of Concern and Support
As word of Dharmendra’s hospitalization spread, fans from across India and abroad flooded social media with messages of love and prayers. Many expressed relief after Esha’s statement confirmed his improving condition.
“Dharmendra is more than a superstar—he’s an emotion for generations of movie lovers,” one fan wrote online. “Wishing him strength and a speedy recovery.”
The actor’s long and celebrated career spans over six decades, with iconic roles in films like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Satyakam, and Phool Aur Patthar. Known for his charm, versatility, and down-to-earth persona, Dharmendra remains one of Indian cinema’s most beloved figures.
A Request for Privacy
Both Esha Deol and Hema Malini have urged the media to show restraint and verify facts before reporting on sensitive health matters. They have requested that the public allow the family space to focus on Dharmendra’s recovery.
“Papa is strong and in good hands,” a close family friend shared. “He’s surrounded by love and care. The family is grateful for everyone’s prayers and wishes.”
As of Tuesday evening, Dharmendra continues to remain stable under observation. Doctors at Breach Candy Hospital are closely monitoring his progress, and the family remains hopeful he will return home soon.
