Concerns about the well-being of the young cast of the "Harry Potter" movies have been reignited by recent comments from Jason Isaacs, renowned for his role as Lucius Malfoy in the franchise. Isaacs revealed that during filming, the youthful actors were engaging in heavy drinking, a revelation that sheds light on the challenges they faced transitioning from child stars to adulthood.

In an interview with The Post while promoting his BritBox miniseries "Archie," Isaacs, now 60, reflected on the peculiar experience of returning to film sets where the cast members were rapidly aging. He expressed discomfort with the notion of treating them as younger than they were, particularly when they were indulging in behaviors typical of adults, such as smoking and drinking excessively.

One of the series' leads, Daniel Radcliffe, who portrayed the titular character, has previously spoken candidly about his struggles with alcoholism, which began during his teenage years. Radcliffe, now 34 and a father to a newborn son with his partner Erin Darke, has been sober since 2010. He admitted to using alcohol as a coping mechanism to deal with the pressures of fame and the expectations associated with his iconic role.

Similarly, Tom Felton, known for his portrayal of Draco Malfoy, has shared his own battles with addiction. In his memoir "Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard," Felton detailed how his drinking habits escalated, affecting his professionalism and personal relationships. It took an intervention orchestrated by his loved ones, including his lawyer, to confront his destructive behavior and seek help.

Isaacs emphasized the significance of witnessing the former child stars navigate adulthood, noting their accomplishments and personal milestones. He expressed pride in their growth and success outside of the magical world of Hogwarts, highlighting Rupert Grint's recent fatherhood and his ongoing connections with Radcliffe and Felton.

As the cast members continue to evolve in their respective careers and personal lives, Isaacs remains supportive of their journeys, recognizing them as mature individuals who have overcome the challenges of their past. Despite the trials they faced during their formative years in the spotlight, the enduring bond forged on the sets of "Harry Potter" remains a testament to their resilience and enduring friendship.
