Halifax's very own alt-pop sensation, Neon Dreams, has clinched the prestigious Album of the Year title at the 2024 East Coast Music Awards held in Charlottetown.

The duo, comprising vocalist Frank Kadillac and drummer Adrian Morris, secured the coveted accolade for their outstanding album titled "Love Child Baby Dolphin."

Among the notable winners at the event, The East Pointers from P.E.I., leading with an impressive seven nominations, triumphed in the Group Recording of the Year category for their EP "Safe in Sound." Meanwhile, the immensely talented singer-songwriter Jenn Grant was honored with the Songwriter of the Year award.

In the realm of solo recordings, Newfoundland and Labrador's own Tim Baker claimed the Solo Recording of the Year distinction for his work "The Festival," while Celtic rockers Derina Harvey Band seized the hearts of fans, clinching the Entertainer of the Year award.

The event also shone a spotlight on diversity and talent across various cultural backgrounds, with Maggie Andrew named African Canadian Artist of the Year and Morgan Toney recognized as Indigenous Artist of the Year.

In a touching moment, the late Bruce Guthro, a cherished singer-songwriter from Cape Breton, was posthumously honored with the Director’s Special Achievement Award, a testament to his enduring impact on the music industry.

Among other noteworthy winners were Julie Aube, celebrated for her Francophone Recording of the Year titled "Contentement," Good Dear Good, awarded for their Rock Recording titled "Arrival," and KAYO, who claimed the R&B Soul Recording title for "Trip." Additionally, 2nd Generation's music video "Kina’mu" garnered the Fans’ Choice Video of the Year award.

The ECMA festival, an annual celebration of Atlantic Canadian music, is set to continue until Sunday, with anticipation building for the announcement of the remaining awards.
