Netflix users worldwide were left frustrated on Thursday after a major outage disrupted streaming services across multiple countries. The glitch, which affected users in the US, UK, Canada, Italy, France, UAE, and others, has now been resolved.
Unexpected Glitch Hits Subscribers Worldwide
The technical issue hit around 2 PM ET, with users in cities like Boston, New York, Dallas, Chicago, and Los Angeles reporting major problems. Viewers couldn’t log in, got redirected to unfamiliar profiles, or saw watch lists that weren’t theirs. Repeatedly refreshing the website or app only returned standard error codes.
Fans Fume as Popular Series Release Gets Interrupted
The disruption happened at a crucial time—the release of the final season of You, starring Penn Badgley. Fans were eager to dive into the finale, only to be stopped by login errors. Many took to social media platforms like X to vent their frustration.
One user wrote, “I wanted to continue watching the last season of You and my Netflix is DOWN.” Another added, “Netflix is still not working. It collapses and loops back when you try to log in again. All devices affected—except iPhone, which doesn’t auto-play the next episode.”
Reports Flood in from Around the World
Downdetector and Outage.com saw a surge in reports from across continents. Posts appeared in multiple languages—Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese, and English—indicating the issue wasn’t limited to one region.
Some users even contacted Netflix directly. One person shared on Downdetector’s board, “I called Netflix today and they said it’s a new problem. They’re working on it.”
Netflix Acknowledges the Problem
While the company didn’t release a detailed explanation, Netflix posted on its website during the downtime. “The service is not down in all countries, but some users in certain regions may be experiencing issues,” the message read.
Issue Resolved, But Questions Remain
Netflix’s status page now shows a green checkmark, indicating the issue has been fixed. However, the cause of the glitch has not been disclosed.
This isn’t the first time the streaming giant has faced such trouble. In December 2023, Netflix encountered another outage. A more public failure happened during the Love Is Blind reunion special, which was supposed to stream live. After an hour-long delay, the episode aired—but no longer live.
Netflix later apologized to fans who missed the live reunion, acknowledging the inconvenience it caused.
Millions Affected, but Service Restored
With over 301 million global subscribers, even a short disruption impacts millions. Netflix has not confirmed how many users were affected during Thursday’s outage.
As of now, the platform is back up and functioning. But fans—and investors—will be watching closely for any signs of recurring issues.
