In a thrilling finish on Thursday night, Nikolaj Ehlers led the Winnipeg Jets to a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Seattle Kraken, scoring the game-winner just 1:26 into overtime. The win extended the Jets' unbeaten streak this season to 7-0, with Ehlers shining in the clutch moment to secure the team’s success.
The match was filled with back-and-forth action as both teams battled fiercely. Nino Niederreiter starred for Winnipeg with two goals, while Gabriel Vilardi also added one, boosting the Jets’ offence. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck proved critical on defense, stopping 29 of Seattle's attempts.
For Seattle, Matty Beniers delivered an impressive performance, contributing two goals and an assist. Beniers’ scoring opened the game at 11:27 in the first period, putting the Kraken ahead 1-0. However, Winnipeg retaliated early in the second period, with Niederreiter scoring at 3:56 to tie the game. Later in the second, Vilardi managed to slide the puck past Kraken’s goalie Joey Daccord at 15:05, giving Winnipeg a 2-1 lead.
Niederreiter struck again early in the third period, pushing the Jets’ lead to 3-1 and putting pressure on Seattle. The Kraken, however, didn’t let up. With 9:58 remaining, Jordan Eberle responded by narrowing the gap to 3-2, marking his sixth goal in Seattle's first eight games. Beniers then tied it up 3-3 with only 3:22 left on the clock, keeping fans on edge and sending the game into overtime.
Joey Daccord, Seattle’s goalie, finished with an impressive 32 saves. Despite his strong effort, Ehlers found an opening early in the overtime period, sealing Winnipeg’s hard-fought victory.
A pivotal moment unfolded when Seattle appeared to gain an edge with a goal by Oliver Bjorkstrand midway through the second period. However, after a review, officials disallowed the goal, citing goaltender interference, allowing Winnipeg to maintain their advantage. Just minutes later, Vilardi scored for Winnipeg, turning the call into a game-changing moment in favour of the Jets.
Seattle’s Beniers, who scored his first two goals of the season during the game, made his mark by performing earlier than he did last year—he hadn’t reached his second goal until Seattle’s 18th game last season. Winnipeg, meanwhile, demonstrated their offensive strength, out shooting the Kraken 29-20 after the first period. This performance marks Winnipeg's fourth consecutive game with at least three goals, underscoring their league-leading scoring position.
Seattle may have walked away disappointed but showed resilience, keeping pace with the Jets until the very end. Winnipeg’s undefeated streak continues, adding fuel to an exciting season start for their fans and setting the stage for future matchups.
