An explosive device went off early Friday at the North Vancouver office of Bowinn Ma, MLA for North Vancouver-Lonsdale.

The incident happened just after 4 a.m. outside her constituency office. Police first responded to a loud noise nearby at 2:45 a.m., but found no evidence.

They returned about 90 minutes later after new reports of an explosion.

Police Confirm Use of Explosive

Mounties confirmed that signs of a blast were found at the scene. Black marks were seen on the wall near the entrance. The explosion damaged the office door and its frame.

Police surrounded the area with tape while investigators collected evidence.

No one was hurt in the incident. Ma confirmed in a statement that all Friday appointments had been canceled.

Investigation Underway

Cpl. Mansoor Sahak of North Vancouver RCMP said the case is still in the early stages. He said police have not ruled out any possible motive.

So far, there is no sign that Ma received any threats before the blast.

The RCMP Serious Crime Unit is leading the investigation. Officers from several specialized teams, including bomb disposal and forensics, are involved.

Public Help Needed

Police are asking anyone with dash cam or surveillance video from between 2:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. to come forward. They believe this could help identify whoever placed the device.

Anyone with information is asked to contact North Vancouver RCMP or leave an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.

Response from the Premier

Premier David Eby also spoke about the incident.

He said the police told him the device was “deliberately set.” He did not call it political violence but said such actions threaten open and safe government.

“No matter who you are, or what you do for a living, you have a right to safety at work,” said Eby.

He also shared support for Ma and praised her as a strong community leader.

MLA Grateful for Support

Ma thanked her community and the officers who responded to the scene.

“I am grateful to serve such a caring and compassionate community,” she said. “Thanks to the officers for their professionalism.”

Because the investigation is active, she said she cannot share further details now.
