Nokia’s shares soared on Tuesday after tech giant Nvidia announced a $1 billion investment in the Finnish telecom company. The move marks a major collaboration aimed at advancing artificial intelligence and next-generation 6G technology.

The news sent Nokia’s stock surging 22%, reflecting renewed investor confidence in the company’s evolving role in the AI-driven networking space.

A Billion-Dollar Bet on the Future

As part of the deal, Nokia will issue over 166 million new shares to Nvidia. The proceeds will be directed toward expanding the company’s AI initiatives and other corporate growth plans.

The partnership extends beyond financial investment. Both companies will collaborate to develop cutting-edge 6G cellular systems and AI-powered networking solutions. Nokia also announced that it would optimize its existing 5G and upcoming 6G software to run on Nvidia’s high-performance chips — a move expected to accelerate data processing and connectivity speeds across industries.

In return, Nvidia is exploring ways to integrate Nokia’s networking technologies into its future AI infrastructure plans.

Building the Next Era of Connectivity

Nokia, once a global leader in mobile phones, has reinvented itself over the past decade as a key provider of 5G network equipment to telecom operators worldwide. The new partnership with Nvidia positions the company at the center of an emerging ecosystem that blends connectivity with AI.

Industry analysts view the alliance as a forward-looking step for both companies. Nvidia, already a dominant force in AI hardware and software, is now expanding its reach into telecommunications — an area seen as critical for enabling large-scale AI applications.

By combining Nokia’s networking expertise with Nvidia’s chip technology, the two companies aim to shape how future data networks support AI operations, autonomous systems, and digital infrastructure.

A Strategic Expansion for Nvidia

The investment in Nokia is the latest in a series of bold equity moves by Nvidia. The company has recently taken significant stakes in several technology partners as it strengthens its foothold across the AI landscape.

In recent months, Nvidia has committed $5 billion to Intel, $100 billion to OpenAI, $500 million to self-driving car startup Wayve, and $667 million to U.K.-based cloud provider Nscale. These investments highlight Nvidia’s strategy of building an expansive ecosystem around AI innovation.

The announcement also comes just ahead of Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s keynote address in Washington, D.C., where he is expected to discuss the future of AI, 6G, and government collaboration. Sources say Nokia and Nvidia will share additional details of their joint plans during the event.

A New Chapter for Nokia

For Nokia, the Nvidia partnership represents both financial strength and technological renewal. By aligning with one of the world’s most influential AI companies, Nokia is signaling a shift from being a traditional network supplier to becoming a major player in the next era of intelligent connectivity.

With AI and 6G on the horizon, the collaboration could redefine how the world connects — faster, smarter, and more seamlessly than ever before.
