Dangerous storms are expected to return in northern Ontario and Quebec. The Weather Network
After an intense day and night of storm activity in northwestern Ontario, the threat now moves toward northeastern parts of the province and into central Quebec. On Monday, areas from east of Timmins to west of Quebec City could see the strongest storms of the day. This includes towns like Matagami and Saguenay.
What to Expect from the Storms
These storms may bring wind gusts up to 110 km/h and hail the size of toonies. Though no tornadoes were confirmed on the Canadian side of the border during the earlier storms, there's still a small chance that a few may develop. Residents are advised to keep an eye on the sky and listen for any weather warnings throughout the day.
Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day Plans May Be Affected
People in Quebec planning to celebrate Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day outdoors should be extra careful. With storm activity expected in parts of the province, staying informed about the weather is important. Sudden changes in weather could pose dangers, especially during large outdoor gatherings.
Storm Threat Moves Toward Quebec and Ontario
By Monday evening, the severe weather is expected to spread east of Lake Superior and continue through northeastern Ontario, central Quebec, and even into parts of Maine. Strong winds and heavy rain remain the biggest concerns.
South Ontario Sees a Break—for Now
Southern Ontario has stayed quiet so far. Warm air and high pressure are keeping storm development away. But this break will not last long. By Tuesday, the storm system will move south and bring possible severe weather to southwestern Ontario and Quebec.
Tuesday's Risks: Heavy Rain and Wind
On Tuesday, places along Lake Erie and in southwestern Ontario could see heavy downpours and strong wind gusts. The atmosphere will be hot and unstable, which means there's also a chance of funnel clouds and even landspout tornadoes. These types of tornadoes form in weaker storms and can still cause damage.
In Quebec, a few strong storms could hit the Eastern Townships. However, the risk there is more isolated and uncertain compared to other areas.
Stay Alert and Safe
With the weather changing quickly, people across Ontario and Quebec should check forecasts regularly. Severe weather can develop suddenly, and being prepared is key to staying safe.
