Three Ontario restaurants secured spots among the top 50 in North America in a bold, new culinary ranking. Two are in Toronto and one is located in the Niagara region.
The Niagara restaurant, Restaurant Pearl Morissette, earned the third spot continent‑wide for its farm‑to‑table menu and emphasis on hyper-local ingredients.
Toronto’s Rising Stars: Quetzal and Mhel
Toronto’s Quetzal claimed the 11th position. The upscale Mexican eatery gained praise for its smokey dishes that incorporate Canadian ingredients. Reviewers also pointed to its creative drink program, featuring both mezcal and tequila cocktails along with stylish non-alcoholic options.
Further down the list, Mhel landed at 44th place. This Korean-Japanese fusion spot in Dufferin Grove impressed the judges with its seasonal small plates and a drink menu focused on sake.
What Makes Pearl Morissette a Standout
At Pearl Morissette, diners only enjoy a tasting menu. One critic’s highlight: “grilled West Coast geoduck with pickled spruce tips, Nubian goat with overwintered parsnips and blackened barley koji that acts as a chocolate ganache dupe.”
These dishes underscore the restaurant’s mission to celebrate local ingredients and creative technique.
North America’s Top Two Revealed
Topping the list, Atomix in New York took first place with a standout 12-course tasting menu. Mon Lapin in Montreal followed in second, praised especially for its wine list and constantly changing menu.
These victories reflect the growing strength of North America’s fine dining scene, with Canadian restaurants clearly holding their own.
Ontario Holds Its Own Among Giants
More than just a local win, these placements show Ontario’s restaurants can compete with major dining capitals. From the vineyards of Niagara to the streets of Toronto, these kitchens are making bold statements.
For food lovers and tourists alike, these rankings spotlight places to watch and visit. Chefs, staff, and fans will surely celebrate the achievement — and taste the difference.
